It's 2:00 pm which is the time the reaping starts. Carmen has never been more nervous in her life. She always tends to think that she can do a lot less than she's actually capable of. A million thoughts go through her head. What if she's picked? What if she dies during the first 5 minutes? How disappointed would her family and district be if she didn't win the games? The citizens are lining up to sign in for the reaping and her heart's beating so fast. When she tries to sign her name, her hand doesn't stop shaking which causes her handwriting to look all sloppy. Even though District 4 trained them for the Hunger Games over the years, there was still always this voice in the back of her head...
"What if..."
Carmen sees them folding up the names and putting them in the bowl. She attempts to close her eyes to let the calming smell of the sea and thoughts of happiness take over, but fear's overpowering the thoughts. The Emcee's voice shattered the uneasy silence.
The Emcee: "Alright everybody, let's get started shall we?"
The Emcee draws a slip out of the bowl and reads it.
The Emcee: "For our female tribute we have...Carmen Marino." Her heart skipped a beat and she was instantly filled with a mix of shock, fear, and disbelief. She's still trying to process the fact that she's been chosen to compete.
The Emcee: "Carmen?"
The Emcee says looking for her in the crowd and all eyes are on Carmen. She slowly walks up to the stand and tries not to look defeated, like her name being pulled didn't phase her.
The Emcee: "And for our male tribute we have...Dylan Lockhart."
He looks lost for a second, his friend laughs and pushes him forward. He walks up to the stand and stands right next to Carmen.
The Emcee: "Ladies and gentlemen, let us gather here today to honor the brave souls who will represent District 4 in the 72nd Annual Hunger Games. It's a time of great sacrifice and courage. Remember that these tributes, Carmen Marino and Dylan Lockhart will represent the strength and the resilience of District 4. Carmen and Dylan, may the odds ever be in your favor!"
