"You didn't get any real information that we didn't already know but it's a start." Fury said leaning back in his chair.
"It's a start." I agreed.
"How do you feel?" He asked watching me closely.
"I feel.." I paused, realizing I couldn't really answer his question because I didn't know how I felt.
When I was in front of Loki..it was like a boldness I'd never known reared it's head and when I left, I was back to being the girl everyone passed over.
"Anna." Fury said catching my attention.
"I feel good about it."
He pursed his lips and tapped his finger on the table but accepted my answer.
"I need you to focus on these questions." He said sliding a piece of paper towards me.
I skimmed them but some of them stuck out more than others.
What will you do when you return home?
What would you do with your freedom?
Who were you consorting with?
Where did you get the septor?
Why were you banished from Asgard?
"You really think he's going to answer these?" I asked.
"He might, some of the questions are from Thor and some are questions that that I'd like answered."
He didn't elaborate in which was which.
"I didn't realize you and Thor were buddies."
"We're not but we have a common interest, the safety of this planet and getting Loki off of it." He said tightly. "Get outta here, go home. You did good today."
I beamed, enjoying the compliment.
"Thank you sir." I said blushing, he might as well given me a big ole hug because compliments from Fury were few and far between.
He waved me away and I nodded at him leaving him to shuffle through paper on his desk.
I closed the door and rested my head on the cool wood feeling exhausted all of a sudden.
The sun was setting when I got outside and a light breeze blew my hair across my face, making my tug it behind my ears.
"There you are!"
I jumped and then relaxed realizing it was only Lilly, leaning up against the building.
"What are you doing here?" I asked her pulling her away.
"I was waiting for you to get off, but I knew you'd get your ass chewed out if I went inside." She said rolling her eyes at me.
Her white car was parked next to the sidewalk, blocking the fire hydrant.
"Lilly, I'll still get in trouble even if you stand outside." I said glancing up at the windows hoping Fury wasn't looking down on us.
"Are you sure you don't want a job with me? You seem like you work for murders or something, you're always so weird about it." She joked.
I knew she was joking but there was an accusation in her playful words.
"Oh stop." I mumbled
She shook her head and turned to look at her reflection in the cars tinted window.
"I'm serious Ann, there's something not right with your work, it's like you work for the mafia or something."
She applied lipstick to her full lips and then froze halfway through the application.
"Anna, you'd tell me if you worked for the cartel..right? I won't judge you."
I'd insinuated a long time ago that I worked for a very prestigious, very private real estate company but the story never quite stuck with her.
"Enough Lilly, I already told-"
"Anna wait up!"
Lilly's eyes darted up to the sound of someone calling for me, when they found their target they lit up like a Christmas tree and she grinned.
I turned around confused on who would have followed me outside and saw Evan walking towards us.
He was no longer in uniform and instead wore faded jeans and a plain black long sleeve shirt.
"Oh my god." Lilly all but squealed into my ear while grabbing my arm.
I brushed her off and tried to give him a casual smile.
"Oh, Evan, what's up?" I asked tucking the pesky fly always hair behind my ear again.
"You forgot this." He said handing me a light blue water bottle that usually sat in my desk.
I didn't have the heart to tell him that I always left that one behind so I'd always have one at work.
"Aren't you going to introduce me?" Lilly asked nudging me.
"Oh right, Evan this is Lilly, Lilly this is Evan. He works in the building with me."
I said glancing at him as I spoke. He rubbed the back of his neck and then stretched out his hand to shake hers.
"You're Lilly Pale right?" He asked.
"Yes, I can't believe you recognized me." She beamed feigning humbleness.
"I saw you on that commercial for lip gloss."
Lilly's smile faltered, that commercial was horrendous and everyone knew it.
Evan turned his attention to me and took a step closer so that he was more facing me than Lilly, she politely took a step away from us realizing he was only intending me to hear what he said next.
"Hey so, I didn't actually come out here to give you your water bottle" he admitted giving me a sheepish smile.
My hands tightened on the bottle making them turn pale.
"Oh?" I asked trying not to let my voice go up four octaves like it wanted to.
"Yea, I was actually going to see if-" He glanced behind him and saw Lilly eavesdropping, she waved at him and he nodded at her while clearing his throat.
"I would like to take you out, if that's okay.."
My blood pound in my ears, was this beautiful man asking me on a date?
His hazel eyes watched me nervously.
I opened my mouth to respond but nothing came out.
"I'm sorry-" I started to say but Lilly interrupted.
"She'd love to! Does tomorrow night work, she's busy with me tonight." she practically yelled with joy shoving past him and taking my arm again.
"Uh, yea tomorrow works great." He said looking between us.
"Great, pick her up at 6pm, she'll be dressed casual-formal, you'll be paying for dinner and don't wear red she doesn't like that color."
"Lilly!" I snapped at her mortified.
"Okay, sounds good." Evan chuckled as Lilly scribbled down my address and number on a piece of paper and handed it to him.
We watched him walk back into the building and I got in her car before she could start squealing on the sidewalk.
She got in and turned to me smiling like a proud mother hen.
"Come on, let it out." She grinned.
I buried my face in my hands and let out a huge squeal as she shook me yelling about how hot he was.
I looked at her through my fingers and she clicked her tongue against her teeth
"We're going to go get you an outfit, one that says I'm fuckable but you don't get to fuck me yet."
