Sophomore year was actually enjoyable for Via. She had a nice friend group, a newly developed style, and all A's (except for chemistry). Starting sophomore year, she had expected her feelings for Landon to ultimately disappear, in hopes of having at least one year without wondering if anything would ever happen between them. The first day of school was your average day; nothing eventful happened until that Friday.
The first class of the day was graphic design, aka HELL. It was only the second time meeting this year, and Via already knew she had made a mistake picking it. The bell rang after the longest 90 minutes of her life, and she immediately hopped up, heading to geometry. As she made it down the hall, she could see him walking her way, Landon. Looking handsome as ever, she only hoped he would notice her in a bright pink shirt. As she walked past him, she could've swore for at least a moment that their eyes met, and then it was over and off to math. "No way that actually just happened." Via thought to herself. For the rest of the day, she would replay the moment over and over, blushing at the thought of him maybe noticing her.3:38 p.m. rolled around, and the bell rang for dismissal. Walking down the hall, all Via could think about was that moment they shared earlier. She would only get to think of it now because once she met back up with her sister Scarlett, she had to act as if he didn't exist. Outside, waiting for their mom, she kept looking in his direction, expecting nothing in return. She got in the car and decided to stop thinking about the moment entirely.
That night, Via's family was trying to decide what to get for dinner and had decided to eat out. "I mean, I'm not in the mood for anything specific," Scarlett said. "Same," replied Via. "Okay, how about Applebee's?!" their mom threw into the air. "Sure." Her family never ate at Applebee's, so this night was already off to a weird start. At dinner, Via tried her hardest not to think of Landon for once, but the thought kept coming up, especially when her family abruptly asked about him in public. Blushing, she immediately shut down any idea of him, only making the situation worse. She then spilled about the moment. "Okay, I'll say one thing and one thing only," she stated nervously looking around. "Today, as I was walking to geometry, he passed by me in the hall, and I swear we caught each other's eyes, but honestly, it doesn't even matter," she spilled to her family. "OH. MY. GOD." Scarlet yelled. Scarlett was the biggest shipper of Via and Landon and always had been, so this was her Super Bowl. "It was because of your shirt, wasn't it?! Your first time wearing a v-neck shirt," Via's mom giggled about. "OH MY GOSH, SHUT UP!!!" Via replied as red as a tomato. "Okay, so now that that's out in the air, can we just go back to eating and not talk about it anymore? Please," asked Via. Upon her request, dinner wrapped up smoothly, and they headed out the door to the next stop, David's sporting store.
"What are we doing here?? I don't know if you forgot, but neither of us are remotely athletic." Via and Scarlett jokingly complained as they pulled up at the store. "Just get out; we're just looking around," their dad replied. As they got out of the car, they made their way for the door. Walking up on the sidewalk, she noticed two people walking out the door at the same time. It was Landon Myers. "No, no, no." Via thought internally. "There's no way this is happening right now," she mumbled. As they made their way inside, Scarlett burst out laughing, making Via want to dissolve into the ground and become invisible. She was never going to live this down.
