The priest had walked over to the church which he entered with haste. Looking around he couldn't find anyone there. There was no sign of Marcus. He walked over to a bench and pulled out the bible from under the seat. Kneeling down he leaned his head down and closed his eyes before he started to pray. He didn't really know how he was able to get to Marcus after everything that he had been through, but he thanked the heavens that they were still above and helped him stay on the right track.
After a little while he heard a door open. He opened his eyes and saw a boy with long white robes come towards him.
"Can I help you?" asked the boy.
"I am looking for Marcus."
"He is busy at the moment. He told me to watch over the church."
"So you don't know when he will be back."
"No I don't."
"Then I must go. I am looking for someone."
"A woman named Valerie perhaps? Or could it be Sloth."
Quickly the priest looked at the boy,
"My name is Alex. I am the one next in line for this church. Marcus has taught me everything. I know much about you priest," said Alex.
"What do you want?"
"I want you to succeed. There is much corruption in the world already and the last thing we need is the sins to start to cast their dark magic around and corrupt the world even more. There is a balance and that balance is being thrown off by them being here. Do you need supplies?"
"No, I have supplies. The girl?"
"She is with Marcus now. But I have a question, how do you know Marcus?"
"From my past. I heard he moved to a different church. Something in me says that this is the right church I am looking for."
"Yes he did because he thought he would be able to change this city but he couldn't. He tries but he will have to learn that changing this town is a lost cause."
"What do you mean?"
"This town is evil."
"Evil?"
"This town is full of dark secrets. There is much darkness in this town. They stay away from this church and we had to rebuild this church four years ago. They broke into the church and burnt it down. They took my brother and burnt him in the woods saying he was a symbol of death, they do it a lot. People get killed every night because they find the light. This town is a cult and if I were you I would get out of here as soon as possible."
"Why haven't you left?"
"Because we have put up a wall around this church. Nothing evil can enter here but in doing so we doomed ourselves. The people found out that we know they are evil and they have tried over and over to break into the church. We can only assume it was to kill us. The wall stood and here we are."
"What if you need supplies?"
"We have our ways. I beg you please get out of here. The longer you stay here the longer you are in danger."
"I might have put a cop in danger."
"What?"
"There was an older cop that shot me. He came up with a crime I never committed and said I had. After that he wanted me to get information about another cop that just became his partner."
"You got information after you got shot?"
"After I died.."
"You escaped death?"
"Yes."
"You are in more trouble than I thought. You cannot escape death. Death will come back and he will be mad. Nothing escapes death, not even death itself. You must get out of this town because this town is only made of death."
"But the cop?"
"He is already dead. The cop you speak of just transferred to this town. The one thing this town does well is work together to get fresh blood to come here. They trick people to come to this town where they let them be for so long before they set their eyes on them."
"The whole town?"
"No only a majority. There are many people in this town that don't know about the dark activities, it helps the newcomers feel more welcome. People are missing in this town and it gets a lot of news but how long does news actually stay news before people let the topic vanish and move onto something else. Now leave!"
The priest looked at Alex before nodding.
"How do I know the girl is safe?"
"Faith," responded Alex.
Without another word, the priest had started to leave the church. As soon as he opened the door he was looking at a group of people staring directly at him.
"They set you as their next target," said Alex.
"You were a dead priest, '' said one man.
"Sorcery," said another man.
"I say we burn him before he spreads his words of prayer around," said a lady.
"Our children already have enough nonsense they don't need anymore," said a fourth man.
Slowly the priest started to walk forward before Alex had grabbed his shoulder.
"Stop, we will wait this out. We have enough food and water for all of us. Come back in," Alex had led the priest back inside.
The two of them had walked to the back of the church where the priest had laid down on the bench. Alex had gone back into the room he had come out of moments before. Without realizing it the priest had fallen asleep.
"Wake up," said Alex, shaking the priest awake.
Shooting up the priest looked around. "What is it?"
Alex had pointed towards the door telling the priest he should go to it. Walking to the door, the priest had opened it up. A couple of the people that had showed up at the door had been holding the cop. He looked beaten and broken.
"What are you doing?" asked the priest.
"We trade his life for yours," said the first man from before.
"He may live if you die," said the woman from before.
"How do I know I can trust you?" asked the priest.
"Your faith," said the woman with a smile.
Looking at Alex, the priest stepped out of the church and onto the stairs where he was ambushed. A bag was thrown over the priest's head. He couldn't breath too well but lucky for him he had learned how to maintain his breathing in situations like this. He didn't panic since he didn't want to use up his air.
It felt like a long time had passed before he felt his hands and legs being tied to something. He started to move his arms but it wasn't possible, the rope was too tight.
"Welcome," said a man as he pulled the bag off the priest's head.
Looking around the priest had noticed he was next to a large fire. A large crowd of people were gathered under the night sky. They were pointing at the priest laughing. He looked to his sides and noticed he was tied to a large cross like object which started to get pulled upwards over the fire.
"Where am I?"
"You are at your final moments," said the man who had pulled the bag off.
