Hello everyone!

Well, I am yet again here to upload this new book. Yeah, you all must be thinking, "Kei writes way too many books." Well, duh! Yeah!!! That's me! I can't stop writing ok! I need a way to escape my darker self and demons. So I write. I write for many reasons as well. 😁😅

Anyway, this book is inspired by a great author. Who is a huge supporter and has inspired me to write my own book that revolves around my country. The country I was born in. (Not raised) Sri Lanka is an amazing country that has a vast history and still to this day has ancient relics for everyone to see. It's amazing right? This is where my ideas sparked. I was also reminded about the folklore that my grandma used to tell me when I was a child.

So, this book revolves around the folklore of "Riri Yaka". In English it's referred to as "Blood Demons". In my take on this lore is that, to all the research and stories that I've read, I realised they were actually our country's version of vampires. The bloodthirsty creatures. But partly like those shapeshifting creatures; Skinwalkers. (I think we aren't allowed to say its name out loud, as the myth goes in English documentaries.) So, these Blood Demons take the form of jackals with a horn on its forehead, like a unicorn. But these creatures are cute like a unicorn. (According to the myth) What I did in this book is, write my own version of this folklore. More of like a retelling and reimagine.

The other references and research I have done and is being used in this novel is the ancient history from the rule of Queen Dona Katherina; the last Kandiyan Queen of Sri Lanka. Also, the influence of Dutch heritage and the time of the British and Dutch influenced Sri Lanka. I'm using all of these to make my book something very different and extraordinary. It's something really out of the box.

For this book, I did research for two years. Visiting places, getting the info I need from my peers and their friends that guide me through. For them, I will be giving a special acknowledgement. I visited museums to look at the ancient relics we have from way back. It was pretty fun. And me having a few friends that come from a Dutch heritage that's disappearing, I got a lot of information from them listening to their stories. This is how I managed to put all these ideas into a novel that might inspire more Sri Lankan authors to do something entirely different.

So, I hope all of you love this book the way I wrote it. This is totally different from the rest of my books. There will be a glossary at the end of each chapter when you don't know any word or sentence you might not understand. So don't worry about not knowing any of it. 😁 And along the way, with permission, I might show some amazing pictures from my travels. That was the fun part. I always loved to study archeology and history but my parents didn't want me to. But, I am so happy I got to do this book with the huge research I did.
