"What's that?" He asks, tilting his head as he pushes himself off the wall, handing his friend the cigarette he was previously smoking. "I didn't quite catch what you said."

"You heard me." Céline responded, trying not to get discouraged by the fact he was towering over her, smirking down at her as if to show she was just another insignificant person he could trample on whenever he felt like it.

"Repeat it then, if you dare." His smile dropped, inching so close his breath lightly fanned over her face, a puff of cigarette smoke making her frown instantly.

"Fuck off. Is that clear enough for you?" She scoffed, moving to get past him but not before taking Henri's hand into her own.

People were staring and she wanted nothing more than to get out of this very unfortunate situation as fast as possible.

But the rude boy had other plans.

"Watch yourself." He says, grabbing her wrist before she could walk away. "You just made your life much harder than it needed to be."

She didn't know it at the time but that statement would later prove to be true.

"What a dick!" She spat as she walked, Henri's hand still in her own.

"Um, Céline?" The boy attempts to interrupt her.

"I've never met such an arrogant asshole in my entire life!"

"Céline."

"'Watch yourself.' That was so lame I mean who does he think he is?"

"CÉLINE!"

Her cousin's voice brings her back from her spiral about the rude individual she found annoyingly intruiging, eyes snapping back to his own.

"Sorry." She sighs, rubbing at her temple as she releases his hand, growing more embarassed upon remembering the fact that the entire school saw them holding hands as if they were a couple.

"Are you going to be okay on your own? I have to meet up with a few friends of mine." Henri asks, feeling apologetic for bringing her trouble on her first day.

"Yes, I'll be fine. Don't keep them waiting."

"Are you sure? You could come with me if-"

"I'm fine, Henri. You can go." She cuts him off before he can finish the thought, wishing nothing more than to be left alone for a few moments.

"Okay." He accepts, eyes wary as they look upon her again. "I'm sorry about Descamps. He's an asshole. Don't worry about him." With that said he walks away.

I'll try not to. Céline thinks, running her fingers through her soft hair in exasperation as she watches the tall boy laugh about something with his friends, cigarette dangling from his lips once again.

"Are you joining today, too?" A feminine voice inquires and the blonde is obliged to turn around, not surprised the voice belongs to a girl around her age.

"Yes." Her answer is short, dark eyes observing the ginger haired specimen who seems to be just as curious about her as she is.

"I'm Michèle." The other says, bringing her pale hand out for a handshake. Her smile widens as Céline accepts it, joining their hands together with a faint smile of her own.

Her blue eyes are enchanting to look at and, feeling a sense of warmth she hadn't felt in a while, Céline finds herself captivated by their vivid colour.

"Céline." The blonde introduces herself, feeling a sense of relief upon finally meeting a human being that is not oogling at her chest.

The two are soon joined by another member of the female part of the school, a dark haired girl with big brown eyes and plump lips whose entire presence screams extrovert.

"Thank God I managed to find you two. I swear if I had to bear another second of those perverse halfwits staring at me like they've never seen a pair of boobs before I would literally-"

She stops herself after she sees them staring, obviously taken aback by her sudden approach though it doesn't bother her in the slightest.

"Crap, you don't even know my name. I'm Simone." Her smile is as big as the positivity seeping through every fiber of her body, eyes wide in anticipation as she outstreches her hand to Céline.

The blonde takes it without hesitation, not having the strength to offer more than a small, tight lipped smile after a day full of new acquaintances.

Michèle is next to receive the energetic girl's hand and Simone is welcomed with more warmth than before, grinning widely as she too feels a strong wave of relief upon meeting the two girls.

"It's nice to meet you." The red haired girl states, followed by a nod of approval by Céline as the duo is quickly turned into a trio.

The three of them spend another few minutes getting to know each other before they hear the school bell ring and finally turn around only to have their stomachs drop.

The school courtyard was entirely empty of boys.

Normally, this would be a relief.

But considering it was the first day of school, it can only mean one thing.

School had started and Céline was, for the first time in her life, late.

What a great start. She mentally scoffs, sprinting after the two girls as they all make their way into the school building.
