The Shadowlit inhaled sharply, swallowing the lump in his throat as a sudden thought send shivers down his spine. Ari still stood nearby, Bean now on his shoulder. The crab seemed irritated, clawing into the unfamiliar man's shoulder.
“What if I'm the monster?” He whispered, not quite meaning to, now unable to feel the sting of his wounds over the fear that came from the idea. Ari, however, seemed unimpressed.
“I thought you were smarter than that,” He began, and he make a noise that sounded like a tsk, “no. Not yet you are not. But, Kadavo, there will come a time where you need to become the monster. It's something I and Cyclone have had to realize; sometimes, you have to become the monster. And sometimes, you have to stay that way.” The older man didn't bother breaking it to him gently. He seemed.. distant, now, caught in a memory from long ago. “I'm sorry.”
