How did everything take such a turn?

His life, first and foremost.

He believed that after breaking his thousand-year-old curse, everything would be different. He would have had his hybrid army and his family by his side willingly, and lastly, he would've earned Caroline Forbes' heart and separated her from Tyler Lockwood, who would remain loyal to him due to the sire bond.

Nothing of all that had happened.

His hybrids were all dead, his family had abandoned him once again and sought love from Matt Donovan and Katerina Petrova. And Kol was being Kol by trying to find more witch problems to meddle with.

And then it was Caroline...

Not only he hadn't earned her heart but Tyler had found a way to break his sire bond with Klaus and stop being his sidekick.

And whose fault was that?

Hayley Marshall's!

The woman who'd stolen his broken heart with a single glance of hers when Caroline had denied him her love.

He then remembered how Elijah was looking at her and vice versa and his face fell completely.

What if his little wolf was more interested in his noble brother and not him?

Would his child get to call Elijah its father...?

Only the thought of it, made him clutch the railing tightly and his jaw clenched.

No, he wouldn't allow that.

Family meant everything to him and he wouldn't let any woman get between him and his brother again.

Not even the mother of his child.

No matter what he felt for Hayley if she eventually chose his brother instead of him, she would've been the one who would lay inside a coffin with a blade in her chest.

Her... not Elijah.

He would find a different torment for his brother to endure...

"May I inquire, where your mind lingers, brother?"

Speak of the Devil.

"Nothing important, brother," the hybrid smiled at him. "What about you? I heard a conversation between Thierry and Diego, saying that you were spotted entering Artemis' chambers." He gave him a questioning yet playful look. "May I ask why?"

Elijah looked forward, a faint insecurity possessing his being. "I wished to check on her. I was not aware that I was committing a crime, Niklaus."

"I didn't say you were, I was merely wondering," mused Klaus. "You barely know her and you already seem to be quite interested in her."

"It is quite fine to be curious, brother," he turned to look at him. "Wouldn't you be curious to learn who is the mysterious woman who is known to be your brother's best ally, when your brother himself has not uttered a single word to you about her?"

The dirty-blond Original didn't get to respond as his phone began to ring inside his blazer pocket and he pulled it out to see it was Hayley who was calling.

"Missed me already?" He mocked, with a naughty smirk, causing his brother to roll his eyes.

"You wish," replied the wolf from the other end, a flirting tone holding her voice. "You just left so early and I didn't get to tell you how good you looked in a suit."
