Payten sat across from the cop. She folded her hands in her lap.
"I know you've spoken to my brother and Mars already, and they probably covered each other's hinds. Well, Pluto pushed Mars off a table. Mars drugged Pluto. Whatever. I'm not about to deny what they said. But, I swear to you, their sexual tension is extreme. If either of them end up in jail, the other might explode."
The interrogator laughed, then looked at her. "Trust me. I know. I study human nature."
"And they're one-hundred percent unconsciously or consciously attracted to each other, right?"
"In my opinion? Yes. Consciously. Both of them. I think it's more trying to push it away than ignore it."
Payten smiled, then shrugged. "Well, parents are an issue."
"Mars'?"
"Not just Mars' parents. They're crazy and wouldn't like anyone, a girl or a boy. Pluto's and my father is a preacher. He is the definition of Bible talk. My mom's the same way, as sweet as they are. They both; however, are very religious. They probably wouldn't love the idea of their son dating a man."
"No, I bet not."
"But, the tension still lingers. I mean, Pluto asked me if Mars' ass was feminine because he stared. If that's not fear, I don't know what is."
Payten paused before continuing:
"You know, Mars came out to me as gay. He never told Pluto. Not because he didn't trust him but because of that same fear. They're both scared to lose each other and to be with each other. Needless to say, you need to talk to both of them at the same time."
"You think?"
"I know."
"What about your side of the story?"
"Well, I suppose I can start with the text. His parents texted pretending to be Pluto, saying they were on their way. I hid just in case. You know, easy stuff."
"Okay. Then that's it. Let's do one more with Pluto and Mars."
"I'll send them in for you."
Payten left, and shortly after, Pluto and Mars walked in. The interrogator glanced at them. "You know, your stories have a couple of discrepancies."
"Like what?" Mars said, looking shocked. After all, he told Pluto to tell him everything.
"For one," the woman started, "Pluto, here, left out the drugging and kidnapping." She then sighed and continued, "But I understand not wanting to throw your lover under the bus, so I'll drop it."
Pluto and Mars turned red: "Oh! We're not!" They both spoke at the same time before looking at each other, then away, all simultaneously.
She looked at them, then laughed it off. "Yeah," she huffed, "it's my job to read people, so don't try me. I'm letting you off the hook for a very, very serious crime. I won't bring it up in court or anything if you don't fight me."
They both nodded quickly.
"Okay. What do you two plan to do?"
"What do you mean?" Mars looked at her.
"When your parents go to jail."
Mars went quiet as Pluto spoke up: "He'll stay at my house." He sounded stern, and his face turned serious really fast. Mars was almost intimidated. The woman looked at him and nodded. It was sort of protective, she thought. Then, she smiled:
"Alright, go home. Thank you both for your time. Tell your sister, Pluto, that she can go too. Take care of yourselves."
They nodded, then went to get Payten and go home.
