X. Her Passion

AUSTRALIA: August 2023

Oscar was shocked but was glad when he received an invitation from Olivia for the opening of the project they have been working on in school. He was just glad that she wanted him around to see her art be shown to an audience.

So, there he was, walking in the make shift gallery of a rented space just a few blocks from their apartment. Hands inside his pockets, he looked around, mesmerized by the artwork.

He was never a connoisseur when it came to art. He respected it, knew when to appreciate it. But he never sought out for it. But now, he was willing to give it a try. He was willing to actually go out of his training to do so. For Olivia, he would.

He was looking around when someone tapped his shoulder. Turning, he smiled when he realized that it was Liv. "You came." She muttered. He chuckled and nodded, "You invited me, of course I came." He said.

Olivia didn't waste anymore time, she grabbed his hand and pulled him around. Telling him all about the artwork made by her friends and classmates. He listened carefully, taking in every back story of each one.

She was about to pull her to another room when he stopped and tugged on her fingers, "Oscar? Are you bored? Do you want to go-"

"Liv."

"Yeah?"

"Where are your works?"

Pausing a bit, she led him to the room where her art was in. There were more people passing by and stopping to just get a glance of her art. She smiled at some people who greeted and congratulated her.

He followed after her but not letting the opportunity of seeing her work. He smiled at the scenes she had painted with her brush, portraits, and landscapes. It seems Olivia could paint it all.

The girl led him to the middle and let out a breath, "Well here they are." She said shyly. He turned to her, "Don't go shy on me Liv. You're amazing." He said.

Olivia stared at him, "They're not as special." She whispered. But he heard it, loud and clear, "What are you talking about?"

She sighed but Oscar had a plan, he placed his hands on her arms and turned her around. Keeping her close, "Look around Liv." He said as he turned her body and him around in a circle slowly.

"People are stopping to look at your work. They're taking pictures and taking the time to look and talk with the people they are with." He started and turned her back to him.

She stared into his eyes and he smiled, "So don't you dare tell me they aren't special." Oscar didn't know how much those words meant to her. But he saw, the change in the light in her eyes, the way they sparkled, and he knew, he did something right.

"Can I tell you something Liv?"

She hummed and nodded, "Sure..." she muttered. "Your eyes remind me of the ocean." He said confidently with a small smile. She couldn't help but feel the blush appearing on her cheeks, the warmth as she chuckled.

"That's cute Oscar..."

And at that moment, Oscar wanted to do things right all the time. If that meant seeing her bright ocean eyes sparkle the way it does. And he was willing to do anything just to see those eyes again.
