I would be playing Eddie Diaz. Eddie moves and becomes a firefighter earlier than in canon, and also divorces Shannon earlier than in canon. Chris is a toddler, 3 years old when the roleplay starts.
Y/C can be whoever you want and they meet Eddie at the daycare Eddie sends Chris to. The reason Y/C is at the daycare is up to you, they could be picking up their own kid, or a family members kid, friends kid, etc.
They meet because Eddie's car breaks down and Y/C offers to help, which is where the roleplay starts.
