My mom was rolled into a ball on the couch, tears streaming down her face. "What's wrong, mom?" I ask."Nothing, darling, go back to bed. " my mom says in a shaky voice. Her eyes were red and puffy. Then my older sister, Maddie, came down. "Mads, mom crying." I say. "Please take her back to bed." mom tells Maddie. She takes me back to bed, before going back down. I can hear muffled voices but all I make out is my crying mom saying "its gonna be alright."
The next day, moms eyes are still red and puffy and she has big bags underneath them. "Mom, why were you crying?" I ask again. "Mom, you can't keep it from her forever. I will tell her now or you tell her." Maddie stands up. Mom sighs and says "Your dad has left us for another woman. Ms.Parkers, who used to work with him."
From that second on, I made a pledge to never fall in love with a boy. And never trust anyone who's that nice. Ms. Parkers, the one who used to give us cookies and milk all the time, was having an affair with my dad.
