As the sun slowly begins to filter through the blinds, 14-year-old Haliee groggily wakes up to the sound of her alarm. It's the first day of 8th grade and she can't believe how quickly summer break flew by.

With a mix of excitement and nerves, she rubs her eyes and sits up in bed. After scrolling through her phone for a few minutes, she finally forces herself to get out of bed and start her morning routine. She heads into the bathroom, still half-asleep, and turns on the shower. As the warm water hits her skin, she starts to wake up and think about the day ahead.

She has carefully planned out her outfit -a white tank top paired with new blue jean-like cargo pants and a white and grey flannel- and she can't wait to wear it. After a quick shower and hair styling session, she heads to her closet to get dressed. As she puts on her outfit, she starts to feel more anxious and stressed for the day. As she remembers from 6th and 7th grade all the kids who bullied her for being an athlete and for having short hair and dressing like boys.

She finishes getting ready with a touch of mascara and lip gloss, and then grabs her backpack and heads downstairs for breakfast. Her mom has already made her favorite pancakes, and she quickly eats them while chatting with her family about her expectations for 8th grade.

With a full stomach and a heart full of anticipation, Haliee grabs her backpack and heads out the door, ready to tackle her first day of 8th grade.

Meanwhile As the first day of school approached, the nerves began to kick in for Jilian, a young teacher who had recently been hired to teach 8th grade English. She had always dreamt of becoming a teacher and was excited to finally have her own classroom, but the thought of being responsible for shaping the minds of a group of teenagers was also daunting. To add to her worries, her husband, who was never there for her and Leslie wouldn't be able to help get her ready for her first day which out more work on Julian's plate.

With a heavy heart, Jilian woke up early on the first day of school. She made sure to have her lesson plans and materials ready, but her mind was also preoccupied with getting her daughter ready for her first day of preschool. She quickly got dressed and then went to wake up her daughter, who was still fast asleep. As she gently shook her daughter awake, she couldn't help but wonder how she was going to manage getting her ready for school while also getting herself ready for her own first day.

Despite her worries, she managed to get her daughter dressed and ready for school. She packed her lunch, brushed her hair, and made sure she had all of her supplies for the day. As they were about to leave, Leslie suddenly started crying, saying she didn't want to go to school. Julian's heart broke as she realized that her daughter was scared to start school without her daddy there to comfort her.

Feeling overwhelmed and torn between her responsibilities as a teacher and a mother, she took a deep breath and reassured her daughter that she would be okay. She promised to call her during her lunch break and couldn't help but feel guilty as she left her daughter in the care of her preschool teacher.

As she drove to school, Jilian couldn't shake off the guilt and worry she felt about her daughter. But as soon as she stepped into her classroom she knew that she had to put her worries aside and focus on being the best teacher she could be. Little did she know a smart and closed student would change her life forever
