Something to remember

We were the couple birds on the tree,
Our hearts pumped together,
We never considered to flee.

Our legs gripping tightly on the branch,
With our eyes locked onto each other,
While stones were being thrown at us.

I covered you with my wind,
And I told you I would protect you.
Tears of both happiness and sadness
Were running from your eyes.

But now, I look into the past and wonder,
Why did my demons push you away?
How did you become something to remember?
