Our Colonisers

Greed and power intertwined,
They sailed across the vast expanse,
In search of lands to conquer,
To claim, to reign, to advance.

With eyes full of entitlement,
They set foot upon foreign shores,
Their ships, like predators, looming,
As they unleashed their conquering roars.

Through deceit and manipulation,
They seized what wasn't theirs to take,
Imposing their rule upon the land,
With a force that made hearts ache.

They tore apart the fabric of lives,
Imposing their culture, their way,
Stripping away heritage and pride,
As they enforced their will each day.

Their language echoed through the streets,
Their customs became the norm,
Leaving little room for the native,
Their traditions, their voices, forlorn.

They divided, they conquered,
Leaving scars that remain,
In the hearts of those who suffered,
In the echoes of their pain.

But through the darkness they endured,
A fire within, a flame so bright,
They reclaimed their identity,
In the face of endless night.

They rose, united, resilient,
Reclaiming what was rightfully theirs,
Rebuilding the foundations,
Of a nation burdened by their snares.

And though the shadows still linger,
Their spirit cannot be tamed,
For the strength of those colonised,
Shall forever rise, untamed.

In the tapestry of history,
Their stories will forever be told,
Of resilience, of survival,
Of a spirit that cannot be sold.

So let us remember the past,
Acknowledge the scars that remain,
And work towards a future,
Where equality and justice are sustained.

For in each heart that beats,
An echo of the past resides,
A reminder of the struggle,
Of the colonisers' pride.

But we shall rise above,
With unity and grace,
Embracing our diversity,
In this ever-changing space.

Our colonisers may have left,
But their legacy remains,
A reminder of the strength,
That in our veins still reigns.
