In a regular building of quite a few floors,

Stood quite a few rows of some regular doors;

All regular width and of regular height,

In regular shades of a slightly off-white.

And four levels up, thirty steps down the hall,

Was one that stood out as the plainest of all.

Set right at the end, labeled 42A,

It opened the flat of one Jessica Gray.

Now Jessica Gray was the nicest of girls,

Quite average in height with a head full of curls;

Who lived in perhaps the most regular home,

Along with her cat and her Frenchie called Rome.

Week in and week out on a typical day,

She'd live out her life in a typical way.

With nothing surprising or special to see;

Just regular living as plain as could be.

Just a regular girl in a regular flat,

With her regular dog and a regular cat.

Well, mostly regular. You see...

While Jess was quite normal as most standards go,

Regarding her cat normal just wasn't so.

When speaking of Stella there's much more to say,

With Stella the name of her cat by the way.

Upon a first glance she was nothing of note,

With light hazel eyes and a black and white coat;

A cute button nose and some soft padded paws,

That housed all four sets of her needle-like claws.

What made her so special and one in a few,

Was not what she looked like but what she could do.

A quirk she possessed and of which she was fond,

Was how her tail worked like a magical wand.

It couldn't grant wishes, such skill is quite rare,

Or make items vanish with magical flair.

Instead, what it did was move items through air,

Both up and across and from here then to there.

From Monday to Friday when Jess was away,

She'd get right to work with her plans for the day.

From scheduled in playtime with Rome and her toys,

To climbing on counters with fleet-footed poise.

And then every day at a quarter to four,

She'd twirl up her tail and unlock the front door;

And take herself out for a walk in the park,

Returning back home well before it got dark.

Not long after that, Jess would make her way home,

With cuddles for Stella and hugs just for Rome.

A pat over there and a belly rub here,
