Chapter 36 Adoption?

After a good night's sleep, Tessa took the boxes back to the storage unit on her way to see Devon to find out more about the tour she was about to embark on. Mariah had to go to work early, so she was unable to help take the boxes to the storage unit with Tessa. After work, she popped in to see her parents Nick and Sharon. I'm sorry we have to leave stuff still in the storage unit Dad. She said to Nick. It's okay love it's not being used for anything else at the moment anyway. Are you and Tessa settled in now? Asked Sharon. Yeah, I guess so said Mariah. We had to sleep on an airbed last night. Because our sofa bed won't be delivered for another couple of days. You can sleep here you know, if it's uncomfortable said Nick quickly. Thanks, Dad. But it was okay. I may take you up on that offer of a bed when Tessa goes on tour though said Mariah. I don't know if I can handle being in the shoebox by myself. "Shoebox"? queered Sharon. Yeah, it's our affectionate name for the tiny place said Mariah. It is only temporary until the house is finished. Hopefully, that will be done, by the time Tessa gets back from the tour. 

Awe, that will be fab for you both, if it is said, Nick. We can't wait for it to be finished said Mariah. It will mean we can start married life properly. With all our things around us. Then hopefully look forward to some kids! Sharon's eyes lit up at the thought. "Kids," said Sharon getting excited. Are we going to be grandparents? Hopefully one day Mom. But how? said Sharon abruptly. I mean, I don't want to point out the obvious here. But you are two women! "Mom," said Mariah sharply. We haven't even talked about how yet. But there are ways, you know. I don't have to be married to a man to have children. We may even adopt. We haven't had a chance to talk about which route we want to go down, yet. But we do want children in our lives, at some point in the future. That's why we're building a big house. I didn't mean to upset you said Sharon, hugging Mariah. I know Mom, you have been very supportive of my relationship with Tessa. I could not ask for better supportive parents, than you and Dad. Nick smiled at her. I can't wait to be a grandpa. He said. Beaming from ear to ear. You will miss Tessa said Sharon. True said Mariah. It feels like it's going to be a long time.

Not as long, as you two went off to Uni said Nick. That was a long four years. It was said Mariah in a sad voice. And we can't get that back. You know she's have to go on tour, at some point said Sharon. Yeah, I guess. I just didn't think it would be this soon after we got married. Anyway, I best get back to the shoebox. Tessa will be wondering where I am. Just as she said that her phone began to ring. Talk of the devil said Mariah. Hi you. Hi, where are you? I was getting worried said Tessa. I popped into Mom and Dad's. I should have let you know. I'm sorry said Mariah. It's okay said Tessa. Are you staying or coming home? I was just about to leave when you phoned said Mariah. When she got in, Tessa had made them some dinner. Oh this looks lovely said Mariah as she wrapped her arms around Tessa's waist after she came out from changing out of her work clothes. It smells so good said Mariah. I'm starving. What are we having anyway? I've made chicken fajitas said Tessa with a little side salad. You decorated the table said Mariah. I did said Tessa I thought it would be lovely to have a little date night. We won't be having many more before I have to go on tour.

Have you got a date yet, on when that might be? asked Mariah sadly. I was talking to Neil about that today said Tessa. I did tell you, we would have about a month here together before I have to leave. And that is still the case. Oh right said Mariah. I thought it may have changed. I was over at Mom and Dad's because I told them if I can't cope in the shoebox without you. I will go and stay at their house for a while. I also let slip, that we might have kids one day! "Mariah," said Tessa sharply. Why would you tell them that? We've not even discussed it properly, yet. I know said Mariah. But we did agree we wanted them. Right? Yes, you are right said Tessa a little annoyed with her. But I now have to go and tell my parents, before I leave for the tour. Because your parents might tell mine. And then mine will get upset that I didn't let them know at the same time. Oh god said Mariah. I do apologize. I always forget, that your Mom and mine are best friends. My mom, also asked me how we were going to do it. Because we are both women! Oh, my said Tessa. What did you say to her? I told her that there were ways around it. And that I didn't have to be married to a man, to do it. I also said there was the option to adopt if we wanted to.
