(imagine this takes place a few weeks after wilhelm's speech | the story was written before the third season)
wilhelm and simon's conversation in the music room was filled with a mix of emotions, ranging from anger to despair. they had both been grappling with the aftermath of their interactions with the queen and the rest of the royal family, and the stress of the constant scrutiny they faced, both from camera crews and from the general public, was starting to take its toll.
as they enters the music room, simon couldn't help but feel a sense of hopelessness. he had always known that being part of the royal family was no easy task for wilhelm, but he never truly realized the sheer weight of responsibility that came with it. but after wilhelm's speech he also learned what it was like to be in public. the constant media attention, the judgment of others, even the potential for violence against his own home and loved ones. it was all too much.
wilhelm, meanwhile, appeared to be on the edge of losing his composure as well. he looked exhausted, as if the weight of the kingdom was resting squarely on his shoulders.
he leans against the window sill and nibbles on his fingers in stress, looking simon directly in the eye.
"everything you do now represents me and the royal house," wilhelm said, his voice heavy with emotion. "I never realized how important it was to me. but now, all of the traditions, the customs, the expectations...they all feel so important. and now it's all on you as well."
simon looked down at his hands, feeling a pang of guilt. he had come into the relationship knowing that wilhelm was a prince, knowing that their relationship would be unconventional and likely met with opposition, but he never realized the full extent of what wilhem was going trough. and the fact that their relationship was causing so much pain to those around them, including simon himself, was almost too much to bear.
"I know, wille," simon said softly, feeling tears well up in his eyes. "I never imagined it would be easy, but I didn't realize it would be this hard either. there's no escaping the fact that we're different from everyone else. and no matter what we do, we'll always be judged for it."
wilhelm reached out to take simon's hand and give him a warm hug. "but we have each other, don't we? and as long as we're together, we can face anything."
after a short while wilhelm abruptly broke away from the embrace, his face betraying a mixture of emotions. he had expressed his opinion, but now he felt he had said too much. despite his efforts to maintain his composure, he couldn't help but let out a heavy sigh as he made his way to the door. "I'm sorry simon, I need some fresh air." he said in a shaking voice and stormed out the door.
simon watched him go and felt a touch of sadness rise within him. he knew wilhelm had a lot going on right now, and he wanted to be there for him in any way he could. but the weight of the burden was beginning to take its toll on both of them and he couldn't help but feel helpless. his eyes now filled with tears and then flowed down his cheeks.
when wilhelm disappeared down the hallway, simon was left alone in the music room, surrounded by silence. he went to the piano, sat down and ran his fingers over the keys. he began to sing quietly and slowly, full of sadness, the song he had written for wilhelm. for a moment he felt like he could breathe easier, as if the weight of the world had been lifted from his shoulders.
but as he stared out the window at the passing clouds, he wondered what the future would hold. how long would he and wilhelm be able to withstand public pressure and what toll would it take on them both? he closed his eyes and tried to imagine a future where they could find happiness together. but the uncertainty threatened to swallow him whole.
