Love?

Kirigiri now understood why people so desperately wanted to pick out gifts for their  fellow peers. The feeling of importance and thought that came with receiving a gift made people want to explode with happiness. Okay, maybe not explode, but you get the gist.

Kirigiri couldn't get the boys gesture out of her head for the rest of the school day. Obviously, she didn't let that get involved with her school work, that'd be ridiculous. However, once she got back to her house she continued to examine the little gifts.

"Kyoko, you received a valentines?" Jin Kirigiri, Kyoko's father asked. He took a step closer to Kirigiri, peeking over her shoulder. A smile broke out onto his lips, hands clasping in rejoice. A glint seem to sparkle in his iris, a proud expression. Kirigiri turned to look at him, sighing softly. "Yes, father. Now, why do you have such an expression?" She asked the man, allowing a hint of annoyance to be displayed in her tone.

"Well, my dear daughter, I just never thought the day would come so soon! So, you've got a boyfriend, hm?" Jin stated, using more formal speech in order to spite Kirigiri a bit. Kirigiri rolled her eyes, picking the basket up and walking towards the staircase. "He's not a boyfriend, father. Just a... friend." Kirigiri hesitated, pondering whether to finally admit that Makoto Naegi was a friend. She finally accepted that he was the only one she thought worthy to call a companion. "If you say so," Jin commented, making sure Kirigiri was able to hear him before she made herself up the stairs.

Jin couldn't help but smile softly. Finally, Kirigiri seemed to be making a friend, at least. He always thought how his daughter preferred to be alone, never relying on anyone. You'd think this was a good thing, but after so much, you only wish to have a shoulder to lean on. Now then, who was this charmer that creeped his way into his daughter's walls? Who did she allow to go beyond what others have seen?  This was a special case that he couldn't wait to figure the culprit.

Naegi was laying on his bed, constantly typing back and forth with the groupchat he had with his friends.

Makoto

Jeez now i'm embarrassed..

Naegi groaned, running his hand through his already messed up hair. He liked Kirigiri, sure, but he wanted to be friendly. However, after those smug faces his friends had made towards Kirigiri, the detective definitely found out his true intentions! I mean, it was kind of obvious.. but still.

Naegi sighed, standing up from his bed. He walked over to the bathroom, staring himself directly in the eye. What could possibly be the girls type? Nobody knew much about her, so it was nearly impossible to gather information from anyone. He turned on the faucet, splashing cold water onto his face. "That was stupid of me.. she'll likely disengage in our conversations even more now."

Naegi sat on the floor, his knees up to his chest, one of his arms clutching the other.

"What if I'm not her type? I mean... what if I'm too short for her? She is pretty tall already, and then uses boots with some heel on them.." Naegi muttered under his breath, feeling discouraged. The boy couldn't help but let these thoughts creep into his mind, only making him feel worse. The detective he liked so much was definitely out of his league, so... why did he even bother?

No.. he couldn't think these sort of things. If Kirigiri only went for looks, then he'd realized it wasn't even worth pursuing her. He inhaled sharply, getting up from the floor. 'It's okay, Makoto.. you'll soon figure it out.' He thought, not letting his insecurities get the better of him. He flashed himself his optimistic smile in the mirror before walking back into his room.

It was Monday, all the Ultimates groaning as they sat into their desks. Naegi almost ran late, walking into the classroom right as the bell rang. The luck he had. He panted slightly, due to running from across the school just to reach his homeroom on time. His friends giggled with him, seeing the luckster sluggishly sit into his desk. Naegi quickly realized a keychain was settled onto his desk. His eyebrow quirked in surprise, the keychain being a fluffy brown dog with it's tongue sticking out.

A note was attached to it. "I am aware it is not much compared to your gift, but I hope you appreciate it.  -Kyoko Kirigiri"   As Naegi read it, he couldn't help but smile wide, a pink hue tinting his cheeks. The Ultimate Lucky student quickly clasped the cute keychain onto his backpack, glancing at Kirigiri from the corner of his eye as he did so.

Kirigiri's hand was covering her mouth, as if she were clearing her throat. In all reality, she had to admit that seeing the delight on Naegi's face sent a thrill through her heart. The same tint that colored the boy's complexion began to appear on her own. Her heart felt as if it melted at the sight of his toothy grin.

Shit, is she in love?
