Seoul, South Korea
She hated her job.
She didn't hate her job because it didn't pay well. For someone born into a prestigious and very wealthy family, the salary she got was more than enough to take through each month with quite the figure left to save.
She didn't hate her job because of the lack of office space either. Although she shared the office with three other people, she had a whole corner to herself and it was more than she could ask for.
Lee Yoo-rim hated her job because of the article opened on the computer screen in front of her: an article she'd written which had been dropped by the higher ups because it "wasn't good enough". The article that hadn't been good enough had now been published with the name of the chief editor instead of hers on the byline; a case of theft in broad daylight.
It was her sixth article that had been stolen right from her in the span of one week and Yoo-rim knew she had every right to be beyond furious.
Gritting her teeth, she printed the article out from the media house's webpage and then printed out all the emails she had sent to the chief publisher alongside the emails he had sent back. She stapled them all together and with a facial expression of someone ready to murder, Yoo-rim stood and walked out of the office.
Her three colleagues faced each other. The other female in the shared space, Ha-neul, spoke first. "Isn't that the sixth article they're taking from her this week?"
One of the two males, Taecyeon, nodded. "It is. Honestly, I would have thrown a fit. I mean, that's a lot and Yoo-rim sunbae's articles are always top notch. She's the ace of this media house. Just take a look at how they're treating her!"
The other male, Kwon, sighed. "I would have resigned a long time ago it if were me and if I had her skills, I would easily have gotten another job."
Ha-neul nodded. "Exactly...I hope she yells at them this time. They've really gone past the limits"
Yoo-rim found her way to the Chief Editor's office, walking in without bothering to knock. The chief editor of the media establishment – Korea Today – was a man nearly everyone despised; a man named Choi Yunho.
He had clearly gotten the position through connections and it was something he never bothered to hide. He was also well-known for being a womanizer, an unserious journalist, and an abuser of office. Unfortunately, he had too many high contacts backing him up and ever ready to bail him out of every situation.
He on the phone when she walked in and Yoo-rim waited, her anger bubbling as she listened to him get praised for the article he had released; an article she had painfully researched on and written as an exclusive on one of South Korea's political figures who was now facing trial for embezzlements of public funds and also for sexual crimes.
Choi Yunho lowered his phone when the call ended and then smiled widely at her. "Reporter Lee! It's a beautiful day, isn't it? We've been getting a lot of phone calls and the traffic on our site is just amazing!"
She didn't respond nor did she smile back and that caused the older man to straighten in his seat, his smile disappearing as he asked "Is anything the matter, Ms. Lee?"
"I guess I can ask you the same question, Editor Choi."
He blinked at her. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
She walked right up to the table and slammed the papers she held on the glass top. "You have no idea what I'm talking about!? This is the sixth article you're stealing from me in less than one week!"
He laughed nonchalantly. "Come on, Yoo-rim. We're not stealing from you, we're simply sharing. You write all the good stories and everyone puts you up on a high pedestal so it's only right to share the glory, right?"
