"No, Stevie." She turned her body to him.
"What?"
"I'm going back to my father's."
"I thought he was in California."
"Stevie."
"Wait— You're leaving Hawkins?"
She nodded.
Steve let out a breath. "Why does he suddenly care now?"
"I guess it's a law thing, now that mom's dead, he has to take care of me now."
"Are you coming back?"
"I don't know."
"I'll visit!"
"Your parents don't like California."
"Then, I can go alone."
"You know they wouldn't let you." She told him. "You're fourteen."
"But you're my best friend." He reasoned, his eyes filling with tears. "I can't lose you, I can't let you leave me."
She tackled him into a hug, keeping her own tears at bay. "We can still send letters."
"You're— You're right, yeah."
"Yeah."
A moment of silence passes.
"You're my favourite person." She told him.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah." She confirmed.
"You wanna know a secret, Hargrove?"
"Yeah, Harrington?"
"You're my favourite too."
"What a coincidence!"
And they did write letters.
For the first few months.
Then suddenly, Steve's letters started being left unanswered.
Then, he stopped sending them after five months of no reply.
How could she do this to their friendship?
