Mordred and Avlynn made it to the cottage by nightfall. Avlynn wrinkled her nose at the place with the hole in the roof and a single broken cot.
"Where shall we sleep?" Avlynn said childishly surveying the place. Mordred smirked at her in a single movement removing his cloak and laying it on the ground nodding down to it. Avlynn instead of becoming uncomfortable by the jesture something in her clicked she looked through the hole in the roof up at the stars and down at the ground then making her smile brightly up at Mordred. Her smile sparkled making Mordred soften and his world slow.
"Remember when we-" Before Avlynn could eagerly finish telling how they used to lay under the stars together Mordred huffed noticeably while walking out "I'm going to get fire wood" He called behind him begrudgingly.
He hated this. He hated the way she looked at him. The trust...the love, he couldn't remember the last time someone looked at him or made him feel the way she did. Not even his mother Morguese came close to the way Avlynn made him feel so loved and his actual mother Morigane he couldn't even remember. While Mordred was deep in his thoughts a fog set in and he could feel it. The magic. The lady of the Lake.
"Mordred" A projection of her form appeared of Viviane.
"You know my lady this is the most I've seen on you my whole life but days ago the first time I met you...you told me of my father and my destiny to be his heir but now I could only wonder why you reappear" He said boyishly.
"You know why..Avlynn she is with you" She said all knowing. Mordred knew there was no point in lying to her.
"Yes..tell me is she part of my destiny?" He said curiously as Viviane paused wondering how to answer him.
"She could be but at the moment she is needed. The ceremony of Beltane is days away and it needs its virgin huntress" Mordred grinned "A lamb sent for rutting." Viviane chose to ignore his statement.
"You must bring her back to me, there will be a boat..you will know where to go. You must do this for me Mordred" She evaporated away while Mordred headed back to the cottage with enough fire wood. He returned to find Avlynn laying down on his cloak with her cloak laid out next to her as if it was for him. She sat up as he started to make a place for the fire. Before he was about to light it she piped up "What kind of magic do you know?" He shrugged.
"It just happens it usually involves people" he said starting to get annoyed that the wood was damp.
"Let me try" Avlynn took his hand in hers folding it in between her hands as she held her head down.
"What are-" But Mordred started to feel it as he then looked at the wood. He could feel the magic...her magic course through him and a fire began to roar from the wood making them both jump unexpectedly.
"I thought you couldn't do magic?" He said shocked but realized Av looked as shocked as he did.
"Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't....it's strange" she brought her knees up to her laying her chin on one of them staring at the fire.
"Well you do have the Cresent moon you had to have earned it somehow" Mordred traced his thumb over it making Av look at him with her sparkling eyes making him drop his hand uncomfortably.
"How did you get out of Avalon anyway? Left you to your own devices did they?" His words made her giggle mischievously. She pulled out a pouch from her side.
"This. It's a mixture of different herbs" Av poured some into her hand and with her mouth blew the powder into the wall "It can make whoever fall asleep instantly if breathed in...the guardians and boatmen didn't stand a chance and it was also night so that's how." Av smiled shyly at Mordred who laughed heartily at her.
