Triple Angst

Austria blames himself for the World War, the Holocaust, the Berlin Wall and the shame upon Germany.  In the Great War, he asked Germany to protect him from Russia. Then the Treaty of Versailles unfairly blamed Ludwig, Germany went into depression that allowed Hitler to visit.

He didn't try to stop the Anschluss, the war ripped Germany in half and dropped Gilbert into communist rule. He thinks if he let Serbia go, his brother would be much happier.
