I HAVE AWAKENED
I'm not sure who missed this, but I've returned with my drawing series! I've been working really hard in school, but since I finished some exams I had a bit of down time where I just cranked out a bunch of drawings. Featured here is everyone's favorite star-eyed astronomer Yūjin as Polites!
For those who don't know who polites is, he's basically Odysseus's best friend, and he may or may not have eaten some lotus. When I listened to this song, I had no doubt in my mind that Yūjin would be the best option—he's sweet and just has that golden retriever energy that makes him perfect for this role! Plus, this song showed his more fun-loving "embrace the world with open arms" personality contrasting Odysseus's more serious approach to the matter, which given my casting choice for Odysseus, I just saw it working really well.
As it happens, having an idea in mind lent itself well for when it came time to actually do the drawing. I've gotten quite a bit of practice drawing armor, so that part thankfully wasn't too hard. I wanted to differentiate it from the others, so I added a blue headband and waistband as a call back to his original design. Blue is generally a calming color, so I thought it fit the character well :)
The facial expression was a bit of a challenge for me—I originally wanted an open-eyed smile, but I just couldn't get the eyes right and I didn't want to spend hours on it and potentially ruin the drawing kick I was on that night (I may or may not have stayed up till midnight •-•), so I settled for this instead. I'm a bit out of practice, forgive me XD
Also, for some reason I really struggled with his hair. You'd think that after drawing Ren and Kasumi, who have notoriously difficult hairstyles that I inflicted upon my poor wrists in the name of aesthetics, that this would be a breeze. However, my usual "swoopy lines and hoping for the best" method just wasn't holding true for me since his hair is shorter. Even now I don't think I did it right, but again, it is what it is and I'm out of practice XD
Luckily the shading was relatively quick, or I might've just lost my marbles lolz
Thanks to everyone who stuck around for this up until now—I really hope it was worth it even with the delays! You guys are icons ^-^
And since I'm at the double-digit mark, this is a great time to mention that at the end of this series I'll be doing an "honorable mentions" chapter with some sketch pages. Not only will it feature some of my cut ideas, but I'm opening it up to you guys as well! Let me know if you want to see any of your characters as Greek mythology figures (for my wrists' sake please keep it to around 3 at the most), and I'll do some cute little sketches for you ^-^
Alrighty, that's all for now—I don't wanna keep you here with my rambling. See ya!
