Jen pov

"Behind the line people," I ordered, putting up a mana barrier. I looked over my shoulder at the burning building behind me. A window shattered and Gwen, in her Pyronite form, Heatblast, waved down to me. I created a mana slide and Gwen sent down a mother and son, then came down herself.

Gwen gave me a thumbs up, I nodded and created a mana dome over the building, stuffing out the fire. Me and Gwen smiled at each other, the RV then pulled up and Grandma poked her head out the window. "This was a cover-up," she called and pointed to a speeding car. I narrowed my eyes and flew after the car.

"Hey, wait for me," Gwen called and propelled herself off the ground with her fire. I smiled and then looked down at the ground, locking my eyes on the car. I aimed down and fired mana, bursting the tires, and making it spiral out of control. "I'll take it from here," Gwen said and flew past me. "Alright then," I muttered and headed back to the RV.

I flew in through an open window and sat at the table with Rook. "Jenifer, what does "Wicked" and "Epic" mean in this sense?" Rook asked and showed me a video she was watching. Rook had started studying up on human culture with the help of a tablet I lent him. I smiled, "In the sense that these guys are using it, it means great it's amazing." I said. Rook nodded, "I see, thank you, Jenifer." he said and I chuckled a little. "You don't need to be so formal Rook, you can call me, Jen," I said. Rook gave a faint nod and I noticed his tail swaying.

The RV door suddenly swung open and Gwen walked in, face flushed, and muttering to herself. "Is there a problem, Gwendolyn?" Rook asked, setting the tablet down. "Those cops laughed at me and blew me off when I told them I stopped the robbers," Gwen said and crossed her arms over her chest. I silently hoped Grandma or Grandpa would stop her before she started spiraling.

"Now Gwen," thank you, Grandma, "In the eyes of most people you are just a child. Most people don't know the power you or Jen possess," she said, placing a hand on Gwen's shoulder. Gwen sighed and rested her head in her hands, "Fair enough." she said and Grandma went back to the passenger seat.

I opened my eyes and found myself surrounded by complete darkness. "Illuminatous" nothing happened. I frowned and tried again, but still nothing, I groaned and began walking.

As I walked I began hearing things, something behind me. I turned and threw a mana blast, whatever was behind me stretched and jumped onto my face. I screamed as the creature latched onto my face. My brain began going numb and my body weak, and no matter what I couldn't get the creature off. I fell to the ground and heard the sound of crying as I lost control of my body.

I gasped and my body jolted as I startled awake. I didn't dare sit up due to a familiar weight on my chest. I laid still, panting as my eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness around me I looked down at Gwen. She was partly on top of me, clutching my sleep shirt in a death grip, and had tears streaming down her face.

My breathing slowly calmed down and I placed a gentle hand on Gwen's head. "It was just a nightmare," I whispered. Gwen's grip loosened and her tears came to a slow stop. I sighed and shut my eyes, relaxing enough to go back to sleep.

The next day we were at the local Mega Mart getting groceries. I tried not to focus on what was being put in the cart, mostly cause I knew it would make me sick.

Grandpa stopped the cart, "Huh, only canned octopus?" he asked while examining a can. I could see Gwen's face turning green from the corner of my eye. "Hm, let's check the pet department," Grandpa said and pushed the cart forward. "Max, Hiney, please tell me you aren't looking for the girl's breakfast." Grandma pleaded, fearing just as much as we were.
