I reach the lab that Dr. Crawford is stationed at and use my key card to buzz myself in. As all the doctors and scientists rush around trying to get everything ready, I walk over to Dr. Crawford's working area and place the files on her desk which is almost fully covered with different types of medication, sedatives and bandages. "My dad wanted me to give you these."
"Oh, thank you Annalise," she says, only turning to look at me for barely 2 seconds before getting back to whatever the hell she was doing. Sometimes, I am really confused at what exactly some people do here. I swear one time I saw someone who was meant to be a janitor, running around one of the labs with a syringe in hand, chasing a frog and shouting 'you haven't had your medicine yet Larry'. I mean, why would a frog need medication.

I stand there looking around at the lab that will soon hold the people who use to be my best friends except they won't remember me at all. They won't even know my name.
"Do you need anything else Annalise?" Dr. Crawford asks and I realise that I've been standing in the middle of her area just staring into space like a complete idiot.
"Oh, no, thank you," I tell her and begin to make my way back to the door but then remember something. "Actually, do you know what time the new arrivals will be here? You know, just want to be ready." She has to know when new people are arriving because she is in charge of making sure they get all the right 'medication'.
"They should be here any minute, now if you will excuse me, I have to get back to work" she tells me and I can tell she's annoyed at me by the tone of her voice so she walks off to join some of the other doctors and I rush out the lab to try and find my dad to ask if I could do the introduction with him, seeing as I was going to be helping them get settled.

Eventually, I find him waiting by the large doors with some other people but when he sees me standing a little bit away from him, they all leave and he motions me over even though I can tell by the expression on his face he doesn't want to talk to me. "What do you want Annalise? The new arrivals are about to arrive and I can't have you here."

"Actually, I was going to ask if I could help you with the introduction seeing as I'm going to be helping them settle in," I explain with a big smile on my face hoping he'll be nice this one time. He doesn't say anything, which makes my smile turn downwards, and just gives me a look that I've seen a hundred times before. It's the one that says 'Don't forget Annalise, you are my daughter. Your only here because you have to be. Don't think your of any importance.' I can't be bothered to argue with him so instead I just walk away but decided to hide behind some of the scaffolding so I can still see what's going on. If I'm being completely honest, all I want to do is see Newt and make sure he's safe. 3 years have gone by since we last saw each other and whilst he was in the maze fighting for his life, I was in heat fighting with myself and my memories. An alarm goes off and I recognise it to be the one that lets people know the new arrivals have landed outside, so everyone quickly rushes to their places and my dad stands in front of the doors ready to greet them so I duck down to make sure no one can see me.

Slowly, the two large metal doors begin to pull apart and I lean around the scaffolding beams to try and get a look at the outside world. While the newbies have spent as long as they can remember outside, I've spent all my life trapped in here. I manage to make out what looks like sand and then gun shots start which isn't anything new and something starts to run towards the guards. Quickly, the new arrivals, or should I say the Gladers, are ushered into the building and their faces tell me everything. I can tell they are confused and angry but also slightly relieved. Probably because they think they are finally going to be safe. I can't help but get this feeling in my stomach that keeps growing. I feel like I need to help them otherwise they may as well already be dead but I can't because my dad would kill me.

My dad begins to introduce himself as Mr. Janson and walks with them through the scaffolding as he explains everything, well almost everything, they need to know. When they come to a stop, so do I but accidentally grip onto a loose pole and cause it to fall making a loud crashing sound. Immediately, all eyes fall in me, who is standing there like a deer in headlights, and when I look over to my dad his face seems happy but his eyes are full of annoyance.
"Ah, yes, how could I forget? Everyone this is my daughter, Annalise," he introduces me and motions for me to come and stand beside him. I do it and he places his hand on my shoulder with a tight, angry grip which causes me to wince a little bit but lucky I don't think anyone notices.
"Now before we do anything else, how about we deal with that smell."
My dad turns around and we all begin walking towards the showers. As we walk, I feel a pair of eyes on me and look to my left to see Newt, my beautiful, kind, loving Newt, looking at me with a warm smile. I reply with my best welcome and reassuring smile but inside I'm in so much pain because every time I look at his face all I can see is all the memories of us. All the memories before he was taken from me. It hurts more knowing that when he sees me all he sees is a new girl who he knows nothing about. I know everything about him but he knows nothing about me. About us.
