( Chapter Twenty-One ━━━ I've Got You, Brother ! )

I was not sure why I was seeing my friend, Grover, in my dreams, but there he was. Nobody had seen him since he left back in July when he began the quest no satyr had ever returned from. Anyway, let me tell you how my dream went.

Grover was terrified of something. Wet sand caked his fur. I knew he had just escaped from somewhere. He had been trying to get away from something. But what? He was holding his human shoes in his hands which he only did when he needed to move quickly. I also don't know how I knew this, but he was in Florida. I had never been, but I expected it to be super sunny. Right now, it was pouring down rain.

A growl tore through the storm. A shadowy figure hovered at the far end of the block. The thing swatted away a street lamp, it busted into a shower of sparks.

Grover stumbled forward. Every so often, a whimper of fear would escape his lips. Have to get away. Have to warn them! Grover muttered.

I didn't know what was chasing him, but whatever it was, I could hear it muttering and cursing. The ground shook as it approached. Grover ran around a street corner, hesitating. He had no time to turn back. The door closest to him had been blown open by the wind of the storm. The sign above the dark display window read: ST. AUGUSTINE BRIDAL BOUTIQUE.

Grover ran inside, diving behind a rack of wedding dresses.

The shadow of the monster passed in front of the store. I could almost smell it. It was a combination of wet sheep wool and rotten meat as well as that weird sour body odor only monsters have.

Behind the wedding dresses, Grover trembled. Thankfully, the monster's shadow passed on.

Silence loomed, the only thing breaking it was the pelting rain. Grover took a deep breath. Perhaps the monster was gone.

I thought so, until lightning flashed. The whole front of the shop exploded, a monstrous voice bellowed: "MIIIIINE!"

I sat right up in bed. There was no storm, no monster. I was still at camp, laying in cabin three. My eyes fluttered over to the empty bed Percy would sleep in. It was his last day of school and no monsters had attacked him this year. That was good.

I swung my legs over the side of my bed, trying to figure out my dream. Normally, they were nightmares about what Luke had done last summer. Gods, I hated those dreams. It was like reliving that day over and over again.

After a bit, I changed into my camp shirt and a pair of jeans, slipping on some shoes too. I stepped out of cabin three, finding the few of the year-rounders going about their daily tasks. I walked toward the Big House. Chiron was sitting on the porch, shuffling through a few envelopes. He was getting ready to leave, I knew, but when mail came, he made sure he was the one to look at them before he gave them to us.
