"Cassie?" His small voice startled me, and I immediately opened my eyes. Jack had approached me carefully. "Are you mad at me?" He asked, vulnerable.

His innocent eyes looked up at me, and I felt a surge of empathy. I immediately shook my head, "No, Jack," I said softly and patted the place next to me, signalling him to sit next to me. "I'm just trying to figure out how to be the best babysitter for you."

He nodded slowly, his facial expression as if he were thinking of something, "Others would've gotten mad at me already."

His voice was soft, and it tugged at my heart. I couldn't imagine that previous babysitters would've gotten mad at him for being a kid and for testing the limits of one person.

"Tell me, Jack," I continued gently, "What do you like to do for fun?"

Jack glanced up at me, his eyes lightened up, "I like building stuff with my blocks," he admitted shyly.

"That sounds like a lot of fun," I replied with a smile. "How about we clean up this mess together, and then we can play with your blocks."

Jack's face brightened at the suggestion. "Really?" he asked, a hopeful tone in his voice.

"Absolutely," I affirmed him. "But we need to be careful, okay?"

"I'm sorry for making such a mess."

"Today, we learned the need to be careful," I said warmly, putting a reassuring arm around his shoulders. "So, I forgive you."

I had totally forgotten the time, so when I heard the soft click of the door, I knew Toto and Susie were returning home. Jack didn't notice; his focus was fully on constructing a tower while I watched with an encouraging smile.

Susie's eyes widened in disbelief, and she turned to Toto with a puzzled expression. "Am I seeing things, or is that actually Jack behaving himself?"

I chuckled, "He's been a champ."

Jack placed the final block on top of his tower, beaming with pride. "Look, Mom! Dad! I made the tallest tower ever!" he exclaimed, jumping up excitedly, nearly knocking over his tower.

He looked at me with wide eyes, and I gave him an encouraging smile. Susie and Toto were visibly still in shock. They had expected to come home to a rampage, like what had happened to previous babysitters.

"We had a rough start, but we worked it out. I think he just needed someone to understand him and his energy."

"We can't thank you enough," Toto said with a smile as he ruffled his son's hair. "I will call you tomorrow. Is that alright?"

I nodded with a smile, "That's perfect. Thank you so much."

"Let me just grab some money for you," Susie said.

"Is she coming over more times?" Jack asked, and I smiled at him. "In the off-season, of course," He added quickly.

"We will see," I replied. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Jack."

"I need you to watch Lily for me," My Mom said as soon as I entered the house. "No excuses."
