On October 10th, 1824, a crisp, autumnal afternoon, two cousins, Thomas Thorne and Francis Button, rode on horseback through the gates of Higham house, where a gathering was being held, there were to be drinks, food and entertainment. Thomas himself had a poetry reading planned, since that was his profession he had no problem doing so.The cousins slowed their horses down and looked up at the large manor standing proudly in front of them, Francis turned to Thomas, "What a place, imagine inheriting this!" "It's pleasant enough to visit, I wouldn't want to live here" Thomas replied, widening his eyes at his cousin and smiling slightly whilst jumping off of his horse, Francis chuckled back in response, climbing off his horse, then following Thomas. "Try not to embarrass me, cousin." Thomas spoke.
Moments later, after they had got drinks, Thomas was admiring Isabelle, he noticed his cousin walking up to him. "Oh, my heart is aflutter cousin." He placed his hand on his heart and turned to Francis, smiling excitedly. "Ah, she is fine indeed, shall we speak to the girl?" Francis begun walking over to Isabelle. He was abruptly stopped by an arm working as a barrier in front of him, "Nay! Nay, nay, nay, nay. She is with her father. He does not know we have an attachment - we cannot speak openly." Thomas sipped his wine, whilst watching a man greet Isabelle with a kiss on the hand. "Though, I long to know that her feelings are unchanged." He added, hoping Isabelle hadn't fallen for this man. "Write her a note, then! I will deliver it. I will be your cupid!" Francis kindly offered. Of course, Thomas agreed.
