My name is Akina, and I am 15 years old. Since my parents died in a car accident four years ago, I've been living with my brother, who is seven years older than me. However, I don't feel at home with him. He and his girlfriend treat me like dirt, and I'm just waiting for the day I can finally move out.
_______________________________That day, like many others, I came home from school, frustrated. I tossed my bag into the corner and collapsed onto my bed. After a nine-hour school day, I was exhausted and just wanted to sleep.
Before I could close my eyes, however, my bedroom door swung open, and Naomi, my brother's girlfriend, stomped into my room. She looked around almost disgustedly since she rarely entered my room. I had posters of my favorite anime, Demon Slayer, all over the walls.
Naomi had tried for a while to get me interested in romantic movies, but I was more into brutal action films.
"Your brother and I are going to visit my parents. You'll be alone for a few hours," Naomi said.
"Should be fine with me," I replied without looking at her.
At least I'd have some peace and quiet.
"Don't cause any trouble. We'll be back sometime tonight," Naomi added before shutting my door.
A short while later, I heard my brother's car speeding out of the driveway.
I spent the whole evening on my bed, watching my series. As the streetlights began illuminating the streets and houses, I put on my jacket and left the house. I walked to the cemetery, which wasn't far from my brother's house.
The facility were well-kept, with numerous graves. Some lanterns lit the main path. I stopped in front of a grave marked by two headstones shaped like books.
For four years, my parents had been buried here. As I lit the candle again, a tear rolled down my cheek. I was the only one who cared for my parents' grave.
My brother didn't bother with it anymore, and Naomi didn't care at all. That made me incredibly sad. Didn't their death mean anything to him anymore? How could he just neglect them like that?
I stood there for quite some time when suddenly a shadow passed by me. I whipped around but saw nothing.
Suddenly, the wind picked up, and an icy chill blew against my face. I noticed another shadow and stepped back.
"Is someone there?" I called out, but no one answered.
When the wind began rustling the trees, I decided to head back. That was just a bit too creepy.
At home, I boiled some water and made tea to warm up my fingers. Then, I crawled into my warm bed and fell asleep.
Later that night, I was woken by a noise that sounded like a door slamming shut. Assuming my brother and Naomi had returned, I stayed in bed and didn't think much of it.
But then, suddenly, a cold hand clamped over my mouth, and my eyes flew open.
"Don't scream! Or I'll have to tear off your pretty little head," whispered a voice right next to my ear.
I couldn't see anything in the darkness, but I felt a strange coldness spreading through my room.
The figure removed its hand from my mouth and brushed my face, my neck, and my shoulders. I didn't dare to move and held my breath.
"So young and untouched. So soft and delicate. You can't be older than 16, right?"
"Who are you? And how did you get into my house?" I asked after recovering from the initial shock.
