Victoria G: What inspired you to become a singer?

Julian Lopez: Well I've always been a creative weirdo since I was a kid. When I was young I'd always write or draw or whatever I felt like. Music without a doubt though has always been different. It hits a chord with me like no other art form. I don't have a single doubt in my mind music is what I was meant to do.

VG: What is your favorite thing about singing?

JL: The way it frees me. The way it makes me feel. It's incomparable.

VG: Who are your musical inspirations?

JL: The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Jeff Buckley, Nirvana

VG: What is your songwriting process?

JL: It usually starts with an idea of something I'd like to say. Then I figure out words and chords that express that feeling.

VG: What messages are important for you to express through your music?

JL: I want people to relate to what I talk about. You know like the human experience and all that. Nobody is alone. There's always someone who's gone through what you're going through. Pain, hardship, heartbreak. Nobody is alone.

VG: Do you play any instruments?

JL: I play guitar, bass and drums.

VG: How would you describe yourself in three words?

JL: Raw, Emotional, Genuine

VG: Do you have any hidden talents?

JL: I'm extremely good at sarcasm.

VG: Where do you see yourself in ten years?

JL: I'm going to be an artist known around the world living in a big house in the woods that I said I'd buy for my mum.

VG: What are your social media handles?

VG: What advice do you have for an aspiring singer?

JL: You have to have belief in what you're doing. There's absolutely no room for any self doubt. You just have to go for it.

VG: What advice do you have for an aspiring songwriter?

JL: Don't be afraid to be vulnerable. That's often what makes people resonate with your art.

VG: What's next for you?

JL: I'm releasing a song on February 27th named "A Last One For You" Besides that I have two shows in Montreal. One in March. One in April. Then I'm going on my first ever tour this summer. Look forward to sharing news about that.

JL: Disappointing people.
