Blaring flashing lights assaulted my senses, accompanied by the dreaded wail of sirens. How much more of this can I take?
Deafening explosions rang out, scorching heat searing my skin. I was petrified, realizing this was merely the opening salvo.
Squeezing my eyes shut, what followed were countless rounds tearing my flesh apart, chunk by agonizing chunk.
I couldn't escape. No matter how hard I tried.
I was bound to a frigid metal chair, my drying tears staining my cheeks dark red.
What had I done to deserve such torment?
That question repeated in my mind with each splash of crimson on the white walls surrounding me.

Let's start with how I got there.
One morning, like any normal high school student, I had been making my way to school, fully expecting to learn absolutely nothing by the end of the day.
It wasn't that I didn't want to learn; our teachers simply didn't teach. They handed out worksheets, leaving it up to us to learn the knowledge, and group reports were just excuses for them to be lazy.
I could complain, but it was too much of a bother. I was already satisfied with my status quo; there was no need for me to change it.
My grades were decent, and I could even make it to honors if I wanted to. Motivation was a factor, but another was the desire not to stand out.
While I could pass all my subjects with ease, the same couldn't be said for most of my classmates.
Well...
Not that I cared. I barely spoke to any of them. I was merely a side character, found only in the corners of the classroom, just minding my own business.
I was mostly alone, and by the end of the day, no one would talk to me. Even if I had a brief conversation with someone, it would definitely be about assignments anyway.
'Friends... how long has it been since I had any?' That thought drifted across my mind.
But it was an unnecessary question. The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity had long since passed me by.
While waiting at the pedestrian crossing, I gazed absently at our school gates and wondered why I even bothered showing up each day to repeat this monochrome, boring life.
When the light finally turned green, signaling it was safe, I was ready to cross that final threshold into another wasted day.
However.
A sudden blur shattered that inevitability.
"...!"
In a split second, my world flipped upside down as a speeding vehicle hurtled towards me. I never had time to react, and even if I did, it would probably be too late anyway.
'Man... I should've just skipped classes.'
While the screams and sirens drowned my thoughts, I felt rather numb to the experience.
I could complain, but what would that change?
I had no dreams, no ambition driving me to achieve anything more. And now, my only memento was to be displayed across the pavement like fresh crimson paint.
