Part 38

"Give me your hand."

"Conrad, I'm gonna fall!" I tell him.

I grab onto his arm and he pulls me up onto the roof.

"Come on." We slowly walk towards the middle of one of the roofs.

"Holy shit, we're high up."

"Don't worry, you won't fall."

After a couple more minutes of slowly walking, we make or way to the middle. We sit down together and sit in comfortable silence for a little while, until he grabs my hand.

"Look." He points it up at the sky. "It's Leo, your sign."

I feel myself blush slightly.

"You remembered?"

"Of course I remembered."

He looks me straight in the eye.

"I remember everything."

I smile slightly.

"Me too."

There is a few more seconds of silence.

He cups my cheek with his hand, it's cold, which makes me shiver ever so slightly

He half smiles, and looks away.

I lean my head on his shoulder and slowly drift off to sleep.

"y/n, y/n!" I hear a faint voice say.

"What?" I mumble.

"Wake up," He shakes me lightly. "Y/N."

"It's too early."

"Y/N Conklin!"

"I'm awake! I'm awake," I say, sitting up. "Steven?"

"Get up."

"Where's Conrad?"

"No clue, you were the one with him last night."

I dreamt it.

I dreamt him taking me onto the roof.

Why can I not remember what actually happened?

Eventually, Conrad shows up, but he doesn't speak to me, or look at me.

He doesn't even acknowledge me.

We all arrive back at the summer house, and see Julia and Sandy Denati having a conversation on the porch.

"Look who it is, our best friends." I grin.

"Oh, I wish you had all gone home when I told you to."

"You're not getting us to abandon our house." Conrad tells her.

She crosses her arms and sighs.

"This isn't your house, Conrad, and it won't be mine much longer."

Everyone's smiles drop.

"I've accepted an offer, I have to go to Boston to finalise the details but, the house is sold. It's over."

"You sold this house in the last 12 hours?" Conrad asks in disbelief.
