What exactly is the difference between lunch and brunch anyways?
It didn't matter, I was going anyways.
To congratulate my little sister on finally saying yes to Lando - props to him, he waited years on her.
But also, for Piper. Wanted to see how she was with her new boyfriend. Wanted to see it with my own eyes.
Needed to see if he was treating her right, even though it would kill me.
Did a line before coming here, just to be sure.
As I walked in, it was just like old times, seeing them all together again. I was a part of these dinners because I liked a girl.
Love a girl.
"Please behave yourself" Adam nudged me. "Yeah man" I mumbled.
As if I was gonna ruin this for my sister.
They were all quite surprised to see me walk in, even Lando and Nova didn't expect me here.
"Julian!" She said enthusiastically, got up from her seat and wrapped her arms around me. "You actually made it"
"Of course, I had to congratulate my little sister for getting engaged, right?" I looked at her, she was looking so happy.
She looked back at me, squeezed her eyes a little. "Did you take something? Are you high?"
Hated to lie to her, so I didn't. Just shrugged my shoulders and made my way to Lando.
"Congratulations man, take good care of her" I told Lando. Felt weird, I was always the one who took care of her.
Didn't really know if I was ready for it - to put my trust in another man.
"I will, don't worry" he looked at Nova, who was hugging Adam. "Thanks by the way, for you know - the art"
Yeah wasn't really a big fan of that. It was a stupid idea to transfer million of dollars of art to another country.
But Nova deserved that - Lando did too.
"No problem, stars and art right?" I patted his back and greeted everyone at the table.
Including Charles and Piper.
Piper was telling everyone about what Charles and her did during their break.
Did she do it to bother me? Possibly.
Did I listen anyways? Yes I did.
She talked about their vacation, how they went on a yacht, had a dinner and then he went away for weeks.
Let her spend Christmas on her own.
Really dude?
She deserves so much better.
Then it was time for Lando's and Nova's story about how he asked her to marry him.
Knew that story already.
I leaned back in my chair, my eyes were still on Piper. She sipped from her mimosa as she listened to Nova.
And then her eyes met mine. Those beautiful blue eyes.
Dark blue with a touch of grey - like the sky when a storm is coming.
She's my storm.
Her cheeks blushed a little, looked down and turned her attention back to the conversation.
"So" I cleared my throat. "You guys have any plans for new year's eve?"
"Oh yes!" Nova jumped a little in her seat. "Julian throws the best New Year's parties!" She looked at Lando. "We should definitely go"
"Sounds good" Lando nodded.
"What about you? You got any plans yet?" I looked at Piper. It was our first real interaction today - if you don't count all the glances.
Charles put his arm around her chair, pulling her closer. It was the first time today that he actually acknowledged her.
"Thanks for the invite" Charles said, looking back at me.
Didn't invite you though.
"We will be there" he said and kissed Piper on her cheek.
"Awesome" I smirked and I can bet you that Adam rolled his eyes. He knew what a mess it was gonna be.
