Funerals are somber occasions. (a crow caws in the distance.)
Myoui Mina and Chou Tzuyu. Sharon and Sally. The best law firm in town, and famous outside Ilfreycombe, too.
Lawyers from that firm had been trained under the greatest female lawyers the cities had seen in a while.
(a legacy. that's the word for it.)
They never lost a case. (how could they? they were perfect.)
Outside the firm, Tzuyu and Mina were the perfect couple. You would catch a sight of them at every charity event, pleasant smiles on their faces as they interacted with the younglings from the orphanage. They would be present at every speech held at Town Square – and sometimes, would deliver those speeches themselves.
(loving. so loving. you could see their love for each other in their eyes.
those same lifeless eyes.)
Tzuyu, who was fond of dogs, would be seen around the local park, walking her cute dog, Kaya. Mina would host game days at the library, encouraging interaction and often joining in the fun of playing Minecraft or building Lego figures.
(who'd take care of kaya now? and the children in the library, eagerly waiting...)
They were perfect.
(funny how it all goes into past tense when someone leaves.)
Kind, sweet, and loving.
(everyone adored them.)
How could life be so cruel to them?

The millionaires that surrounded their caskets, their closest ‘friends’, held back unshed tears, or bawled openly.
(were they really friends?)
But if you were part of the circle, you’d know.

The tears were fake.

There was no such thing as an empathetic or ethical billionaire.

To them, the fall of Sharon and Sally meant only one thing: moving up the ranks of high society.
