Skys

The sky was turning shades of reds, oranges, yellows, blues, and purples each melting into the other as the sun dipped below the horizon. I've been told that I shouldn't be sitting on my roof and do that, that I would slip and fall. I had. Once before but nothing to bad. I pulled my legs up to my chest and wrapped my arms around them, resting my head on my knees. The colors deepened. Some fading some growing until the stars and the moon were the only things shining. Only black was left. My mind wandered to my best friend. What was he doing right now? I hope he's ok. I laid back and looked at the sky. It was clear. Not a single cloud just and just what you wouldn't expect from august weather. Suddenly, there was a scraping sound below making me sit up. Hands appeared and hoisted up the body of him. He didn't say anything. Just sat next to me and looked at the sky with me. We were quiet. Simply enjoying the others company then he spoke.
" it's beautiful tonight...I saw the sunset as I was walking here." He said quietly. He leaned against me still looking at the sky, a light smile on his face. I didn't say anything. The look on his face was the happiest I've seen for a long while.
"You know? One day were going to live together. Sleep together. Share our feelings and happiness. Our sadness..." He takes a deep breath and puts his head on my shoulder. I wrap my arm around his back. And lean into him." We'll be able to spend as long as we want under this sky. And even if we're apart I'll be looking at the same sky as you will be no matter how far we are." We look at each other. He smiles and I smile back.
"You have yourself a deal." I whisper back. We keep eye contact for a very long time. Memorizing the others facial features in the dim light of the moon.
" I'll see you soon." He squeezes my hand and then he's gone.

He's been gone for five years...but I still look at the sky and think..." He's looking with me, always have and always will be."
