23. Int. Castle Entryway - Early Night

2 1 1

Camera cuts to the inside of the entryway as viewed through Stace's lense.

Camera shows her face.

In the earliest parts of the night, Stace arrives inside the castle to find it in a hectic disarray.

She approaches a fellow servant, a male one, to inquire about the scene she is bearing witness to.

Stace
Hello, what's happening here?

Male Servant
(Mournful)
You haven't heard...?! The king, he's... Dead.

Stace
(Shock)
Dead?! How?!

Male Servant
We don't know... We just know he is. I'm sorry to cut things short, but we all have work to do...

The servant walks away hastily.

Stace
(Thoughts)
How did this happen... I just saw him yesterday.

A senior servant, the head of staff in fact, Garret, walks up to her from the side. His hair is brown, and his eyes are wooden brown. He doesn't look much older and wears a nice suit in comparison to typical servant attire.

Garret
Stacy, you're back.

Stace turns to look at him, shocked to see him approach so suddenly.

Stace
Y-Yes. Is it true? The king's dead?

Garret
(Toned down sorrow)
Yes. A tragedy that will befall this kingdom hard.

Stace
(Uncertain)
Well, what do we do now?

She asks, rubbing her neck in discomfort.

Garret
We work like we always have. In the coming days, the princess will assume the throne. So that's all that we can do. Here.

He hands a broom to Stace.

Garret
Sweep the first-floor western halls.

Stace
(Submissive)
Yes... Yes sir.

Stace walks away from head of staff Garret, in thought as she carries the broom close to her chest.

Stace
(Thoughts)
So all I do is work...?

She looks up at a painting of the royal family she passes.

Stace
(Thoughts)
How is... How is River handling this...?

She walks down the first hall.

Camera holds onto her face, one of concern, before fading to black.
