Maybe...just maybe...the Paper School wasn't all that bad.

Of course, you still had to go to school. The past week, especially since Lana, Abbie, and Claire's death, had been hard, emotionally and physically. Especially for Engel. The poor boy would cry every once in a while when he got reminded of Claire. Oh, how you wished you would wake up and see that everyone was okay. But alas, this was reality. Students would of course, die occasionally, though you would never see Miss Bloomie among the killings.

Today, was definitely no different. Engel was walking alongside you towards the school, for you decided that you would accompany him incase something happened, because he seemed pretty out of it for the past week since...y'know. (No, this ain't a Y/N x Engel book ya'll I'm sorry-)

"Hey, Y/N?"

He began, fiddling with the feathers in his hair.

"Yeah?"

You answered, pretty intrigued since he hadn't really cared much to talk about anything.

"Uh...I would like to...to thank you for being there for me when I was down, and walking with me."

He smiled faintly. Your smile immediately widened, to the point that it almost reached from cheek-to-cheek.

"Awwww! Engel! Have you finally recovered a bit?"

You enthusiastically smiled, though you knew you weren't that okay yourself. He slowly nodded and smiled. Though faint, you knew it was a genuine smile, not a fake one to mask his sadness.

~Timeskip brought to you by a lil' happy  Y/N~

It was lunchtime and you were sitting with Bubble and Engel (They were your two best friends after Lana, Abbie, and Claire). Although, let's not talk about them now. Now, now. The focus is you! Not them. (Lmao fourth wall went bye-bye. Sorry not sorry.)

"LUNCH-TIMEEEEEE!"

Zip yelled. Bubble looked towards the her and raised an eyebrow. You seemed too preoccupied with getting Engel off your shoulder to notice. The poor boy had fallen asleep and fallen to your shoulder. (AGAIN, NOT A SHIP)

"Oh, hey! It's Y/N!"

Coming to the sudden realization that Ruby was referring to you, you squinted in confusion. Did he...know you? Pushing Engel to the table, (gently ofc) and waking him up, you walked over to Ruby, not caring if people looked your way.

"Do you perhaps, know me?"

You asked out of the blue, startling Ruby who had her back turned to you. She rubbed her arm in embarrassment.

"Uh- huh? Y/N? Oh yeah! I saw you in Middle School!"

Ruby grinned as you muttered in confusion. Skell peeked out from behind her.

"You know him?"

He asked Ruby. She nodded and he raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, though we were barely acquainted due to the fact that I was on the other side of school. The only times I'd see Y/N were when we walked into the school and got picked up by our parents. Y/N didn't really look happy to leave the school during that time...he also came to school with some bruises too. I suspected that they were from beating people up, but now, I don't think so."

Ruby whispered the last parts (about Y/N not being happy and bruises). Skell nodded in acknowledgment and patted your shoulder. You grinned in confusion, walking back to your table and picking up your empty plate.

"Huh. Weird."

You frowned, bringing your plate to the trashcan. You'd proceed to think about it for the majority of the day before shrugging it off.
