"sir?" Eva sniffles, looking up from her hands. "what are you doing here?"

"Wrigley called me when he was with you in the ambulance" Officer Bradford answers, entering the room.

"t-that doesn't explain why you're here" Eva murmurs.

"do I need to tell you why I'm here?" Officer Bradford asks, raising an eyebrow.

"I suppose not" Eva answers, softly.

"have the doctors already talked to you?" Officer Bradford inquires.

"paralyzed from the waist down, likely permanent" Eva nods, wiping her teary eyes.

"you saved the kid" Officer Bradford says.

"how is he doing?" Eva asks.

"got a couple of bruises but otherwise fine" Officer Bradford answers.

"I didn't-... firefighters were going to be twenty minutes and if we hadn't answered the call... who knows what could've happened to the kid" Eva says, trying to justify her actions.

"hey, hey, I get it, you did the right thing" Officer Bradford assures her.

"the right thing ended up with me here" Eva sniffles, gesturing to her legs under the thin hospital blanket.

"sometimes the right thing does that" Officer Bradford replies.

"doesn't really feel like the right thing anymore" Eva whispers.

"it was, you not only saved the kid but you made sure the kid was saved despite your TO who was content taking low level calls" Officer Bradford says.

"at least you got what you wanted" Eva murmurs.

"and what was that?" Officer Bradford frowns.

"I'm paralyzed, you got rid of me, just like you wanted" Eva answers.

"Eva, I didn't want to get rid of you" Officer Bradford answers.

Eva gives him a look, knowing he's lying.

"I'm serious, giving you tests didn't mean that I didn't want to keep training you" Officer Bradford assures.

"you acted like you hated me" Eva murmurs.

"its how I train rookies" Officer Bradford shrugs.

"well you don't have to worry about me anymore, at least" Eva says, softly.

"kid, I will always worry about you" Officer Bradford answers.

"you don't have to" Eva responds.

"try and stop me" Officer Bradford snorts.

"sir-" Eva starts.

"call me Tim, I'm not your training officer anymore" Tim corrects.

"right" Eva whispers, the reality of the situation finally hitting her.

"you can't be a cop anymore, Eva" Tim says.

"I know, I just-..." Eva huffs.

"it hadn't set in yet" Tim finishes.

"yeah" Eva whispers. "god, I don't know what to do anymore"

"there are jobs for the disabled" Tim offers.

"I know, I know, it's just-... this was supposed to be me doing good to make up for my parents being complete assholes" Eva explains.

"that's why you became a cop? because you feel some sort of responsibility for your parents behavior?" Tim asks, shifting in his chair to be a little closer.
