She recoiled back a bit, the cold wind making her flinch slightly at the immediate contact it had with her skin. Her black face mask protected her eyes quite well, but it was not enough. It made her remember just why she was out here with him, the cold feeling she had on her heart returning full force as she clearly remembers what had happened. She tightened her left fist, with her right hand cracking the mask that resembled Jason Vorhees' mask and which allowed her to transform herself into the fictional serial killer.
It has not even passed a full hour since Ashley Kafka betrayed her, lying to her about restoring Ben Reilly's memories. She trusted the woman, trusted her enough to help him remember. But all the female did was transform Ben into a new goblin, making him even more of a shadow of his past self. He didn't even remember her, obeying the Queen Goblin as her alleged mistress. It made her mad, and her mind could only think of killing the red-skinned female goblin for doing what she did to Ben. But a surprise came in the form of the one Ben was cloned from, the original Spider-Man, arriving to save her from being killed by not only Ashley Kafka but the newly transformed Ben Reilly.
"What's the matter, Eve?" She glanced at the hero, the man removing his mask. She had to admit that apart from the hair color difference between Ben and Spider-Man, the two were nearly identical. It only made her heart ache even more remembering that the man that had been there for her was no longer himself to begin with. And the caring expression that he was giving her only made her remember the same look she would receive from Ben. Thinking about it a bit further, Ben was this man's clone; which would only make sense that she would also feel a connection with the man across from her. "You are awfully quiet, especially after what happened"
She stayed quiet, pondering a bit on just how she was even going to respond to his words. Her dusty pink purse hand loosely from her shoulder, the weight that it had seemingly covering both of her shoulders as she began to think on how to even begin talking. The words wouldn't come out, her lips parting slowly before they were united once more. Her thoughts were betraying her, imagining now a life where she would finally be able to be happy and forget about her terrible past as Elizabeth Tyne. She was now Janine Godbe, a woman that had no connection to Elizabeth and especially to the people that she knew before. Sighing and ignoring her mind's turmoils, she looked to the dark sky in wonder.
"I have done so many terrible things... The pain I have caused just because I wanted to help Ben" She whispered, her eyes closing for mere moments. She could still remember the agonizing screams of the civilians she hurted when Spider-Man and the X-Men were fighting against Ben, the Goblin Queen and herself. She had convinced herself that it was for Ben, that all of the pain she caused would be forgiven because she was doing it to help someone she loves. But having seen him be transformed into an abomination, it hurt her badly. "I was chasing the past, trying to seek for help to finally be able to live in peace with the man I had fallen in love with"
It was then that she fully moved her head towards the arachnid hero, to the hero that started the arachnid theme. Her eyes looked at Spider-Man white lenses with an expression full of longing and pain. She didn't even know she was making those expressions, didn't know that she was being so emotional right at that very moment. All she was thinking about was how to convince the man to help her get Ben back to normal. But she also knew, very deep down in her heart, that there was no way to get Ben to change back, not with Kafka seemingly making the clone follow her everywhere.
"I want a future..." Her voice cracked, a lone tear escaping from her right eyes through her face mask as she sob softly. All she ever wanted was a life with a man who would honestly care for her. And she had finally found that in Ben Reilly, but it was taken away from her by Ashley Kafka's acts of revenge. She didn't know what else to do to finally have that life she had dreamt for so long. It was then that she felt familiar yet unknown arms hugging her with a sense of care. She opened her eyes quite wide, her head looking up to see the hero's eyes looking at her with care and a small smile.
"It doesn't matter if you are good or bad, Janine..." More tears began to slowly drip down from her eyes, her heart throbbing quite fast at his words. His words were soothing, the same tone that Ben would use to calm her down when she was having a panic attack from remembering her past. "You are scared and hurt... Tired of escaping from the hauntings caused by your past" She hugged him back, she couldn't hold back her tears any longer. His words were hitting hard, yet his tone didn't change. He was still soothing her, his hand softly caressing her back. She could feel the familiarity in the actions, the same ones that Ben would use. Her heart couldn't handle it any longer, and it also didn't help that her mind was not differentiating Ben from Spider-Man. "You just have to be yourself"
She smiled, hiding it from the hero by tucking her head into his chest. She breathed in his scent, and she could admit that it was very familiar to her. She didn't know if she was that hurt about what happened that she was already replacing Ben with the man he was cloned from, but his actions reminded her of Ben so very much that her heart was already beating fast at the mere thought of spending time with him. She would try her best to calm down and maybe get to know the man that is the Amazing Spider-Man. Maybe this was what fate had in store for her to finally achieve what she wanted, to finally have a future where she didn't have to worry about her past.
