Ayesha was roaming around the house lost in her own world and didn't see where she was walking. She bumped into someone and oomphed falling back. Thankfully, before her ass could touch the ground, the person held her arm and pulled her straight.
She looked at Abhijay wide eyed and he chuckled seeing her expressions.
She was about to start laughing herself when her gaze fell on her mother looking at them from a distance. She had that malicious look in her eyes which said that if Ayesha behaved nice with him, she'd do what she promised.
Ayesha closed her eyes and switched on the bitch mode she's been showing him since 4 years now. It was a miracle he didn't start hating her already. She had been behaving so bad with him.
“What? What's there to laugh?”
She asked in an irritated tone and his smile vanished.
“What’s wrong Ayesha? Kyu aise behave krti ho? Kuch galti krdi kya maine? Maaf krde yaar. But please, let's just go back to how we were.”
She wanted to cry and hug him tight. He sounded genuinely sad. She gave a fleeting look towards her mother and took a deep breath.
“How were we before?”
She asked and he frowned.
“I miss how close we used to be Ayesha. How best of friends we were. Can we not go back to that?”
Oh how she wanted to.
“Friends?”
She asked in a mocking tone and he looked at her shocked.
“We were friends when I was a kid. Because kids don't know who to befriend Abhijay. And you know why I stopped talking to you? Because I realised how we're no match. You and me? Friends? Have you looked at us? Our differences?”
Disbelief shown across his face. She knew he could catch where she was hinting towards but she had to do that. For him.
“I'm a businessman’s daughter. And you are our cook's son. How can we ever be friends? I realised that and made friends of my status. We could be nothing more than an employee and employer.”
She prayed he didn't notice the crack in her voice. Or the way her eyes pleaded with his to not believe her. But she knew she'd hit a sore spot and he'd hate her now. She could see the hurt in his eyes before he steeled himself and shut his emotions off.
When he looked at her with eyes devoid of any emotions, she knew she'd lost him. She'd finally lost her Jay. He hated her now. She'd done it. She'd let her mother win.
“You're right. Well, fine then. Mam.”
The word felt like a slap on her face. She loved her name from his mouth. But she'd lost the privilege now. Her lips quivered but she looked away pretending to be nonchalant and nodded.
Her eyes were about to shed tears any moment now. Without a second glance at her, he left the place.
As soon as he left, the tears and sobs raked free. Her mother patted her back proudly and said.
“Good job!”
“I hate you!”
Ayesha spoke with all the hatred and venom in her and ran to her room to cry her heart out. She'd just hurt the only man she'd ever loved.
Oh how she wished that night on her 20th birthday had never happened.
Ayesha was too excited. It was her 20th birthday. The official end of teenage.
Today was also the day she had planned to finally confess her feelings to her Jay. They've been bestest of friends since she'd remembered and he was her everything. And now she wanted to make it official.
Ayesha had been searching for him for a few hours now. He'd suddenly disappeared somewhere just after the cake cutting ceremony and now she couldn't find him.
She huffed in annoyance and searched for the last place in the house. Terrace. When she found even that empty, it made her worried. Where did he disappear all of a sudden?
Her worry was cut short by a hand coming to tickle her. She shrieked at the suddeness and turned to see Abhijay laughing.
“Idiot! Heart attack dena chahta tha kya mujhe?”
She yelled hitting his arm and he came down from his laughing fit.
“Why do you look so pissed? Come on birthday girl! Smile!”
She gave him a glare and asked.
“Where were you? Kaha gayab ho gaya tha beech mai se? Kabse dhund rhi hu mai.”
“Tera gift lene gaya tha.”
He said looking around as if it was no big deal. Her eyes shone and she asked excitedly.
“Sachi? Kya laaya?”
He pulled out the box he had been hiding behind his back. She opened it excitedly and gasped seeing one of the limited edition bags by her favourite designer.
“How?”
He smiled sheepishly and confessed honestly.
“I had to use company ke contacts and don't tell it to anyone lekin I used Sir’s name.”
Her eyes sparkled bright and she launched herself in his arms.
“This is the best gift Jay. Thank you so much.”
He hugged her back and kissed the top of her head. They stayed like that for some time before Ayesha opened her eyes.
“Jay?”
“Ayesha?”
They spoke at the same time. She looked at him and smiled.
“Kuch baat krni thi tujhse.”
“Mujhe bhi. But you go first.”
He replied and she took a deep breath. She couldn't get her smile to diminish even if she wanted.
“Wo mai-I-”
“Ayesha!”
Before she could get any words out of her mouth, she heard her mother call her. Ayesha immediately sprung apart from him not wanting to be seen by her mother at the moment and blushed when he cleared his throat and looked away.
Her mother looked at them and gave a look of distaste towards Abhijay before addressing Ayesha again.
“Kuch baat krni thi tujhse. Neeche chal mere saath.”
