Sarah Brown- French, Spanish, and Scottish (mother); English (father); Sarah is a fun-loving and impulsive girl whom Mia Vasquez-Rivera becomes acquainted with during her time at Easterseals, a non-profit organization that caters to both adults and children. She is approximately 3 years younger than her, with her birthday falling in mid June, and identifies herself as a social butterfly who is always looking to turn a new leaf. She is hedonistic and has a a bit of a rebellious streak to her personality, with Mia noting that she comes to class with a new injury every few days, yet she is also caring and understanding. She is a natural born leader whom often takes initiative when it comes to community projects and seems to have a knack for working with children, having been employed at a trampoline park. Sarah has a turbulent past that involves drug addiction, as she was previously in a romantic relationship with an ex whom led her to try cocaine, among other substances, and she is also a chain smoker. Her recklessness also led her to experience an ectopic pregnancy with a boyfriend named Alonso, in addition to her putting herself in precarious situations whenever she is driving. She is still a supportive friend nonetheless and guides her best friend Yael during a difficult time after her father's passing, and she also shared a special bond with her late grandmother, who gave her a ruby ring. She is the second youngest of 5 siblings and has bonded well with her younger sister Kathy, seeing herself as Bubbles from the Powerpuff girls among her 2 female siblings. Sarah formerly lived in Roswell, New Mexico and has commemorated the town with an alien tattoo upon her wrist, as well as another one of Saturn surrounded by hearts upon her forearm.
She has also traveled to Europe due to her father's being stationed in Kosovo, with her largely preferring Germany over Paris and wishing to go back to visit Spain one day. She has hidden depths, as she has decent computer skills and likes to troubleshoot her family's devices for fun, and she has a soft spot for her pets, which include a dog named Rex. She is very popular on social media and has over 2000 friends on her Facebook account, meanwhile she drives a used Lincoln car that belonged to her father. Sarah notes that Mia is timid, but friendly and tries to encourage confidence in her when she points out her desire to please and seek approval from others. She attends a luncheon with her at a Brazilian steakhouse with the other students, which also involves going to a nearby mall that was located in the downtown area. She is typically seen in the company of Harper Eadie, a well-meaning but high-strung girl whom is also in the program and is known for her love of bandanas, Studio Ghibli and hand-made jewelry. Despite her flaws, she is often seen as reliable in stressful situations and is capable of helping calm down a girl named Ines when she is having a panic attack. Sarah also experienced some struggles in her early life when she felt unresolved trauma over her father's actions, even going so far as to call him a "narcissist" in the heat of anger. She feels unclear at times in regards to what her true role is among her family members, and she is often referred to as "her grandma's girl". She still tends to communicate well during gatherings and eagerly anticipated being an aunt when her eldest sister announced she was expecting a boy with her fiancé. Her favorite holiday is Thanksgiving due to all the food that is served, although Halloween comes as a close second, with her trying to pay tribute to The Addams Family through her Wednesday costume.
Sarah's main past times include surfing the web, sleeping, and eating cake, and she admits that she rarely works out and always has a stash of chocolate-covered potato chips in her room. She brings a container of homemade green chili chicken enchiladas that everyone enjoys and also has a salsa recipe that she uses when making bean, cheese and potato tacos. Her favorite seat on the couch is at the far end, during which she will watch popular films like Five Nights at Freddy's or Jurassic World. She listens to a wide variety of music and is a fan of the gospel singer Mandisa and a few Christian rock bands like Flyleaf, yet her favorite song is Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman. Sarah is also a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and identifies as both bisexual and gender-fluid, as there are some days in which she dresses in masculine attire and others in which she feels more feminine. She has naturally curly dark blonde hair that she cut short during a manic episode, which leads her to occasionally wear a long straight wig and do her makeup. She often has to remind Mia to wear her glasses when she notices her straining her eyes and reminds her that she should use them simply so that she can see, despite her appearance with them. While she doesn't agree with Sarah's life choices and disapproves of her habits, the two are united by their shared experience at Easterseals and usually work together in team settings. Sarah has had a multitude of jobs in the past, which include a position at Pizza Hut and two others as a daycare worker and a server at Pasha's, a Mediterranean grill. She is generally a C+ student, although her instructors have realized that she will perform better at tasks that she is truly interested in and passionate about.
She tends to bottle things up and require space to process things alone during a bad day, but will gradually get over her anger and be found joking around and making puns again. Her friend Yael describes her as someone who will give things her 120 percent when it really counts, as well as a self-sacrificing person whom is loyal enough to die for those she cares about. Sarah misses her home state and mentions that there was a McDonald's in her area that was shaped like a UFO, and she often wears multiple layers to deal with the cold winters in Valley Stream. She later plans on getting another tattoo with her boyfriends initials during Valentine's Day and can periodically be found smoking an e-cigarette at the back of her school building. She thinks that Mia's best quality is her smile and praises her thick, abundant curls, wishing to grown out her hair again to its original length. She takes sleepy night tea as a natural supplement to help ease her insomnia at night, and her bedsheets are made of Egyptian cotton. Sarah is a skinny girl who stands at 5 ft 4 in tall, with an oblong face that features a prominent nose, close-set hazel eyes, and kinky-curly hair that has been dyed a reddish-brown shade. She is seen as being underweight by her PCP and is monitored by her loved ones for her eating habits, but will often snack between meals. She has a pair of Ariel pajamas and gets a mani-pedi once a week, and she has to wear earplugs whenever she goes swimming. She has aged prematurely and is perceived as looking to be around her late 30s to early 40s, although she cleans up nicely when she straightens her hair and wears a fashionable coat over a silky dress. Sarah has to take medication for her mental health issues and sees a therapist once every three weeks, as she has several diagnoses.
Mia's father initially sees her a bad influence, only for his opinion on her to change when she greets him courteously and texts his daughter to ensure she was picked up safely. She spends most of her weekends going out dancing with her friends or hosting sleepovers with Yael, whom she has known for over 6 years. Some of the things that she enjoys the most are knuckle sandwiches, feeding pigeons, dance battles, teasing, cocktail weenies, vlogging, car racing, Frida Kahlo, and bunion scrapers. She ironically admits to having a fear of heights and says that the last thing she would ever try in life is skydiving, despite her boyfriend's requests. Sarah enjoys the novel Gone Girl and has read Their Eyes Were Watching God, and she also likes bossing people around and watching shows about plastic surgeries gone wrong. She likes men in uniform and can often be found talking and texting on her phone, with some people nicknaming her "Mrs. Smarty Pants". She has a near death experience when she has a dizzy spell one day and collapses, causing her to almost go into cardiac arrest. This leads her to live with her parents for the time being and begin saving her money when she gets another job working at at the playroom in Living Spaces, a furniture store. Sarah wears multiple bracelets upon her wrist that have been giving to her by Harper, which come in all shapes and colors. She and Mia do not talk to each other regularly, but manage to reconnect after some time when she sees her at the flea market one day. She makes plans of possibly going back to school to get her associate's degree in a computer-related field and suggests becoming a software developer. She celebrates 290 days of being clean after not having cut herself and has made a pledge to sobriety and making the most of what she has now. ESFP 4w3
