No One's POV:

Shepard's head hangs low, her eyes fixated on the council in the vid-com room. It had been just under an hour since her team had pulled out of Thessia... They had lost.

This defeat was worse than the Collector hit and the invasion of Earth put into one. They had a single chance to finally grab the last piece they needed to end this damn war... And had squandered it.

The video com shoots to life, showing a worried-looking Tevos.

Tevos: Commander Shepard, are you there?

Shepard's eyes still fell upon the floor.

Tevos: Commander?

With little strength she had left she looked up at the councilor.

Shepard: Councilor, the mission--

Tevos: Contact with Thessia has been cut off. When will the Crucible be ready to use?

Shepard fumbled to get the words out. How could she explain that in the biggest moment in the galaxy's history? The point where life and death for every sentient life hung in the balance... And they came up short.

Shepard: Councilor... I wish the news were better. We didn't get the information.

The color of Tevos' face drained, and her eyes widened as she held her hands.

Tevos: Why not?

Shepard: Cerberus was there. We were... We were defeated. We don't know how to finish the Crucible.

A sigh escapes from Tevos' lungs. She ran a hand down her face to try and calm herself but it was failing.

Tevos: I... don't know what to say. What was the situation on Thessia?

Shepard: Deteriorating fast... The Reapers are there in strength.

Tevos: Then... I should be going. Plans... must be put in motion... continuity of civilization has to be considered...

Shepard could see the water building up in her eyes, tears ready to fall but were held back with much strength.

Tevos: I never imagined this day would come...

Shepard: None of us did... I'm--

Before Shepard could finish, Tevos cuts off her transmission... Leaving the Commander in the dark.

Shepard: Sorry...

Shepard runs a hand through her hair, trying to calm herself... But it wasn't helping much. The weight of the entire galaxy was on her shoulders and right now she had let everyone down. Hard... She needed to talk to someone. Someone who can come to an hour of need.

She opens up the logbook quickly scrolls down to a familiar name and clicks on it. It takes a few moments for the connection to come through. She looks up and sees her old CO's dark eyes looking down at her.

Anderson: Shepard? What's wrong?

Shepard: Sir... Anderson... Thessia has fallen. Cerberus was there and they took the plans for the Crucible.
