chapter four: the breakup

"DOES IT HURT?" Eleanor asked as she looked at her brother's back. The bruise was horrible looking with the mix of purple and blue hues all over.

"Of course, it fucking hurts." Leonardo answered as he shook his head annoyed. "He's a fucking psycho."

"You deserve it," replied the blonde, beginning to carefully apply the numbing cream all over her brother's back as he winced a bit. "You were a real jerk to him."

"And? He acts like he's cooler than us because he grew up poor." Leonardo said with furrowed brows while moving a bit on his chair.

The blond's words reminded Eleanor of the same thing Niccolò had said a few days ago.

"Well, maybe because he's not a snob," Eleanor said as she pushed her index finger into one of the areas with the bluest hue.

"What the fuck? That hurt!" Leonardo cursed as his sister closed the cream and he turned around to face her.

"I know," she answered with a tight-lipped smile and narrowed eyes, leaving the bottle on top of her brother's bathroom sink. "Dad is going to be pissed off if he finds out."

"Do you think I don't know?" the blue-eyed boy asked his sister, looking down for a moment, he was scared that Damiano would say something to his dad, after all this was the second time he and his friends had messed with him.

"Sometimes it looks like you don't," the blonde whispered, leaning against the sink.

"You won't tell Dad, right?" Leonardo asked, looking up at his sister with his hand interlaced and leaning against his spread legs.

Eleanor shook her head. Sometimes she really hated her brother, but after all, they were siblings, they needed to cover for each other because if it was her who was in trouble, he would do anything to protect her.

WALKING THROUGH THE halls of Collodi alongside Fabio while some people whispered about what happened that weekend when they caught sight of Eleanor felt embarrassed in a way. She had no idea what her classmates were saying, but she could guess what by the looks she was given.

"They're calling your brother and Damiano animals, you know?" Fabio whispered with his hands in his pockets. "Well, they're calling Damiano that, but they're talking about Leo too."
