Cassidy stood in front of her mirror awkwardly looking at her new uniform. A navy blue cape that went down to her hips, a white blouse, and plaid navy blue tie and a matching skirt, white socks and black shoes. She had her brown messenger bag underneath her cape after she had stuffed it with school books. Her hair was at that weird stage where it was too short to be pulled into any type of ponytail and too long to be a cute bob. But her appearance was the least of her concerns. Surely, everyone would have seen the news and had recognized her as the girl who had that accident. They would bombard her with questions that even she, the victim of the accident didn't have answers to. And that really frustrated Cassidy.
All Cassidy remembered was waking up in the Care Centre, doctors and her parents huddled around her, although she could barely tell who was who. It was almost as if her brain was forcing her to recognize that her mother was her mother, her father was her father on her brother was her brother while normally it would come naturally to her.
Pushing that trauma aside, Cassidy pushed her door open and headed down the hallway. Her family had moved into an old house that reassembled a greenhouse since it had a glass dome in the middle. It had belonged to her deceased aunt and was one of the three Luminberry farms left in Lunaris.
She walked downstairs and outside where her mother, father and brother were waiting.
"Are you sure your bag isn't heavy? I can Charm it again just in case!" her mother fretted.
"It's fine, don't worry mom," Cassidy responded, shrugging.
"Let's go! We can't be late, and as far as I can tell, we are running late," her brother, Maxin grumbled.
Cassidy rolled her eyes as he completely disregarded everything from that point on, and climbed into the Sphere.
The Sphere was a white ball that travelled at the speed of light in the air in invisible glass tubes. Even though everyone could use their Comporter, a small, silver circle used form communicating and teleporting, the Sphere was simply more useful and practical for going longer distances.
Cassidy climbed into the Sphere and waved bye to her parents as the door closed. And half a second later, it took off.
The ride was upward as her new school, Andesite was floating in the sky with nothing but clouds to support it.
Finally, she was there, after probably five minutes in the Sphere, it slowed down and landed on a grassy patch. Max waited before she had gotten out before shrinking the Sphere and stuffing it in his satchel.
Students crowded the field, chattering amongst each other. The school was a huge crystal castle-like building with big magenta, crystal doors and many windows overlooking the grounds.
She looked behind her and Max was already gone. Whatever. Cassidy debated whether or not she should ask someone where the Auditorium was since that's where she was supposed to go to pick up her schedule.
•••
After ten minutes of endless wandering down the twisting halls, Cassidy had gathered up the courage to ask someone where the Auditorium was and now she found herself sitting in one of the hundreds of pump red chairs for students. She noticed that there was a gap of empty chairs between her spot and others'.
Apparently every student and teacher was supposed to meet in the Auditorium for the weekly announcements at 8:15 sharp. It was only 8:10, so as time drew on, Cassidy because increasingly bored.
The Auditorium wasn't anything special, there were some speakers in the corners of the quartz walls, and many tiny little star lights hanging from the ceiling, as well as many plump chairs.
Finally, it was 8:15, and the announcements flickered on.
"Good morning Andesite! Hope everyone had a wonderful spring break, but that's over now! Anyways, for those of you who forgot, your new schedules along with new locker keycards will be given to you in study hall! And don't forget both girls and boys tryouts for the Luminball teams are open, so make sure to head on down to the gym if you're interested! And lastly, if you happen to see our new students Maxin and Cassidy Spires, don't forget to give them a warm welcome!" the person speaking said in an excited tone.
But seriously, why'd the person have to mention her?
The moment the announcement ended, everybody was gathering their stuff and heading out to study hall. She had gotten a comm earlier that week saying she was in study hall six. But where the hell was that?
Cassidy walked down the hallway ignoring the constant whispers about the accident when someone tapped her shoulder.
"Hi! Are you Cassidy?" the girl asked.
Her hair was a dark auburn and she had vivid purple eyes. She had a little bit of freckles and a tanned skin tone. Honestly, she was really pretty. But Cassidy did notice that her fingers were coated in darkness, a sign of a Nyctokinetic.
"Yeah..."
"Cool! You're in study hall six right? Want me to show you the way? I'm Marline by the way!" she said, not even bother to let Cassidy answer her questions.
Trying to remember the way Marline was taking her, she quickly forgot. Were these halls designed to confuse everyone?
Marline lead her into a small classroom with about ten desk with five chairs each. Sitting down at a table in the middle of the class with three others, she beckoned Cassidy to come sit down with them.
"This is Cassidy! Cassidy, this is Vic, Enver and Naileah, but she prefers Nai," Marline said, gesturing to each of the students.
Vic had chestnut brown hair and honey coloured skin, Enver had black hair, tan skin and piercing green eyes that would have made him look mean if he wasn't smiling. Nai looked almost exactly like him although her long, black hair was floating? Enver and Nai looked so similar that there was no way they weren't related.
"Are you guys twins?" Cassidy asked.
"Nope! We're quintuplets but our other siblings probably couldn't care less about us," Nai shrugged.
Quintuplets? Damn...
"You've probably heard of us before... Marpole Quintuplets?" Enver said, calmly.
"Oh yeah..."
The rest of the day was uneventful, Cassidy found her locker and compared her schedule with her new friends.
She was in History of Abilities with Nai, art and Elemental Sciences with Marline, gym with Enver, Dimension Studies with Marline and Nai, lastly Ability Studies with Vic. Maybe her worries about everything weren't rational...
