Dakota, finally feeling much better, headed down a sidestreet, stewing over what Willow had told her. This was a world of manufactured superheroes, where they were treated like celebrities and even sold. And ruling over them all was a company called Vought and their ultra-team called The Seven.

Willow had called their leader 'Superman on Steroids'. None of them were to be trusted and there was a plot afoot. Dakota was supposed to find a man named William Butcher and get her ass into Seven Tower, the home of Vought.

Lightning wreathed her palm and she stifled it, pulling it deeper into her. Where Dakota was from, the Greek Gods existed. They integrated themselves among humans and had offspring with them that inherited some of their powers. Dakota's ancestry included Zeus and Hermes. From them she had inherited accelerated healing and lightning. At least that's what she had discovered so far.

And one day, Willow had appeared and announced that she was from another universe and wanted to take Dakota to explore the universe. She had laid down some ground rules on this adventure and slapped a dandy little device into Dakota's watch. 'This'll pop you back to the ship when you're ready to go. Try not to die.'

A couple were across the street from her and she turned to look smiling at the sight. It was a young man and his curly haired partner, the pair swinging into the street. She didn't have anybody in her world. She had her son Jason and her friend Roman and her cousins but that was it. Jason's father had been a friend before he became her biggest betrayal.

Her ears caught the whir of a sound barrier breaking and she lifted her head, trying to keep track of where it was coming from. Focus, Dakota, find William Butcher. Willow had said she was the key to bringing down the monsters of this world. She needed to find William Butcher and offer her help.

Lightning wreathed her skin again and she practically watched the event in slow motion. This was her first time seeing a Supe and she watched it- no, him, crash into the happy couple. The woman with the curly hair was gone. The only remainder was a bloody stain on the ground and the young man.

Dakota's heart was in her throat. She was in the military. She was a soldier. No, she had been a soldier. Before Jason. Her instincts kicked in and she had to stop herself from rushing to the man and snatching him up. He seemed like he was the same age as her son.

She turned away and kept walking. Step after step. Keep fucking walking, Dakota. Superheroes were slapped on everything with every step she took and a dark foul anger curled in her gut. She couldn't have helped that boy but she could hunt down that killer.

Her short walk turned into a sprint as she followed the sound of running footsteps back in the direction of a massive skyscraper. Vought Tower. It had to be. There was a massive seven on the side. Fuck finding William Butcher. She could march in there and kill them all.

Right. Fucking. Now.

So she did. She headed right for the double doors.

Not realizing that if she had just stayed with Hughie Campbell and the scatter remains of Robin, she would have met Billy Butcher pretty soon.
