TW: talk of abuse, HEAVY angst
Percy and Annabeth rarely ever fought. They've known each other for so long that they know when something is wrong, and they just talk about it. Their relationship was the furthest thing from toxic one can get, but there were some times where they did fight. This was one of those times.

They were at Sally's apartment when conversation shifted to a quest Percy went on recently. This quest was almost ruined because of a mistake Percy made, and it took a great toll on the camp. Annabeth didn't know the details, but when she heard them she got mad. Now, she's yelling at him. Sally is at work and would be for the next hour or so, so no one was home to stop them from fighting.

"Gods, Percy you can never do anything right!" Annabeth yells at him and that set him off

"Really? I do everything I can for them! I risk my life doing the things they can't and I'm not even thanked for it!" He yells at her. She backs away slightly but Percy grabs her arm roughly to stop her.

"Do you have any idea what it's like to put your life on the line, and the only thing people tell you is that you're not good enough?!" He asks squeezing her arm

"Percy, stop. You're hurting me." Annabeth says but he ignores her

"Everyone always tells me I can't ever do anything right, but I'm doing everything I can! I just want them to be safe, but nothing I do is ever good enough!" He says squeezing her arm tighter

"Percy, stop it!" She yells shoving him away from her

She holds her forearm as a bruise starts to form over where Percy was holding. Percy's eyes widen and his jaw drops slightly as he realized what he did. Annabeth just looks at him with a face of disgust and hurt. He steps away from her create distance as the gravity of what he did weighs down on him.

"Annabeth I-. Fuck I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to, I swear." He says as he starts to panic. Annabeth looks at him confused

"Percy," she starts

"You need to leave." He says and Annabeth grows more confused

"What?" She asks

"Leave." He says as he backs away further

"Percy, I'm not," she says before being cut off again

"Annabeth, go." He says firmly "You need to get away from me."

Reluctantly, Annabeth leaves the apartment and makes her way back to camp half-blood. Percy's back hit the hallways wall and he slides down it as memories from his past come flying back. All the times Gabe would hit him and he would plead for him to stop, but he didn't listen. The feeling of being hurt by someone you're supposed to trust comes flying back at him.

All of a sudden, it felt as though someone wrapped their hands around his throat. As though something was lodged in his windpipe and his ability to breathe was stripped away. He starts to hyperventilate as the memories he's worked to keep hidden for all these years come back up to the surface. His hands go up and grip his hair roughly as though he's trying to rip out the memories, but he's unable to do so.

Percy doesn't know how long he was sitting there, but eventually the doors opens and Sally walks in.

"Percy, I'm," she starts but stops as she sees her son in the midst of a panic attack. Everything in her hands go clattering to the floor as she runs over to him. She kneels in front of him and takes his hands out of his hair where they promptly curl into tight fists.

"Percy. Hey. What happened?" She asks but instead of an answer a loud sob escapes his mouth. She watches helplessly as his body shakes with sobs for a reason that is unknown to her.
