A DAY AFTER FINDING MELODY, the girl was dragged to court and Gemma made sure to be sitting in the gallery. She was anxious on the teenager's behalf, knowing that she felt bad for what she had done and certain that being bullied was punishment enough. With Charlotte on her team, Gemma liked her odds, though, and there was a hopeful look in her eyes even if she nervously gnawed on her nails while watching the judge mull over her decision.

"Alright, Miss Mathis. I believe you've learned your lesson and won't act foolishly a second time, so I won't be sending you to a juvenile detention center. However, to make sure you understand the consequences of your actions, I order you to a 100-dollar fine and 15 hours of community service. You're dismissed", the judge finally came to a conclusion, her announcement earning a relieved sigh from Gemma. Pinching her nose, she watched Melody pull Charlotte into a hug, and the sight made the Moretti smile – especially when Charlotte didn't seem to know how to react, leaving her awkwardly standing with her arms by her sides.

As Melody walked away with her parents, Gemma made sure to give her a wave, which the girl happily returned from the embrace of her mother. A part of her job was rarely following up on the people she caught, only showing up for court on special occasions or if she was called as a witness, but most times, she had no idea what happened to those she went after. Her task was simply to produce the wanted to court, and so, she figured she wasn't going to cross paths with Melody again, but she silently wished her all the best.

"I take it you're happy with the outcome", Charlotte's voice got her attention, and turning to face the woman standing on her left with her folders neatly tucked in the crook of her arm, Gemma smiled.

"Very. I didn't spend that much time with her but I'm sure she's a great girl. Not to brag, but I'm usually a pretty good judge of character", she pointed out, making Charlotte chuckle. Still, the smile on the lawyer's red lips didn't seem all that sincere, and it twisted Gemma's smile into a frown. "Aren't you glad? Or, let me guess, you're cool with murderers but think teenage girls deserve electric chair", she teased, teetering on the line between hurtful and fair, but concluding from the sly smile she got from Charlotte, she hadn't tipped over to the wrong side.

"No, I just think I could have done better. She should have gotten off with a slap on the wrist", she stated with an unsatisfied look in her eyes, and this time, it was Gemma's turn to chuckle.

"I'd say a fine is pretty much a slap on the wrist. You're good, but you're not a miracle-worker", Gemma reminded, admittedly entertained by the woman's ambition. She didn't blame her – in fact, she found it admirable. The idea of actually commending Charlotte on something, though... it felt alien to her. Supposing that that was as much of a compliment as she was going to get from Gemma, the other woman shrugged.
