Rohit Sharma (15)

Rohit just lost his father around a month ago.

And here he was, standing at the gate of the most successful 'akhada' of this entire town.

You see, Rohit's father was a World champion wrestler. He won alot of medals for his country. He has always made his country proud.

His father was a good man. Whenever he won something or a sum of money, he'd donate it to the good of their village. He was thoughtful and kind and probably the most lovable of all.

But.

His father was just not that. A father. In becoming of a world champion and a kind-hearted man in front of the world, his father seemed to forget that he had his own two kids.

Rohit's mother died while giving birth to his younger brother Hardik. It was not like his mother had any role in his life to be honest.

She was just, there. There to make him food, feed him and his father and just that. She herself came from a very conservative family, so she became just that. A woman, who did not know the world beyond kitchen.

Rohit often felt sad when he came into his senses about how his mother might have felt. But she chose that life by choice. He could never understand why, but she did choose it.

After his mother's death, his father thought of Hardik as something of a curse. Rohit hated that. Hardik was his brother, his mother's death happened because of the pain, not because of that small human. It was not as if his father was there when she was crying out for her life. He was never there actually.

Rohit had taken the role of caretaker of Hardik, but his father often butted in, saying how he should be 'the man' and become a wrestling champion like him.

Rohit felt suffocated, not because of wrestling, it was one of his favourite things to do, but the expectations, the high expectations that became the burden on his narrow shoulders.

His father died of heart attack, they said. But Rohit wonders if that man had a heart at all.

As he said, his father was a good man, just in front of the public. Because he became that, a public figure- his one wrong move and his reputation would vanish.

Rohit hated that word.

Reputation.

You should be earning respect, not reputation, he thinks.

But anyways, so where was he? Yes, his father died a month ago.

If he'll be really honest, he'd say that he was sort of happy for his brother. Now Hardik would be living his life as he wants.

Because Rohit was already living his fathers'.

It always bemused Rohit, how a person with everything in hand- money, reputation, publicity etc., can still be devoid of the most important thing- love.

He somewhere knew, that after his father took retirement, he lost the purpose of life. Everything blurred out for him.

And he started being a father.

For the first time in his life, and probably the last.

Because by then his sons were not his sons. They also lost their father even before they were born.

Giving your sperm to a womb does not make you a father.

Rohit had started looking at his father like a coach. Because that's what he was. He has always been the coach, the instructor, but never a father.

You can say that Rohit had Daddy issues after all.

Because even after his death, the only thing his mind was reeling with was, that he has to become a world champion, just like his father.

______________________________________________

Rohit was standing in front of the best of the best, coaches and instructors of the decade, or might he say century, Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

There were always a limited number of students he trained, but the students he trained, always had a world record.

Rohit had heard his name from his father a lot. Sneering as if taking his name will tarnish his tongue.

His father often mocked Dhoni sir, saying how if he was such a good instructor, why not went into actual wrestling.

Rohit always thought that maybe he had different priorities, that's why.

But Rohit even after his father's nagging about him, chose to be trained under Dhoni's care.

Because if he was going to live his father's life, the least he could have is for it to be on his own terms.

Now that he's face to face with MS Dhoni, he might have not considered being sneered at because of his parentage.

Dhoni sir, who was a certain definition of handsomeness, with a chiseled jaw, hard muscles under the baggy t-shirt, hair till his shoulders, with lose trousers.

He was intimidating, but he also had a soft edge, unlike his father, he genuinely seemed kind.

He was kind enough to give him a chance to prove himself at least.

______________________________________________

Rohit was a decent wrestler, he knew the rules, he knew the techniques, he knew everything.

But his knowledge of the subject is not everything.

Because now he was in front of a professional wrestler, who looked like he would crush him like a walnut.

Rohit's task was simple, tire the wrestler out. That was not the task but he could not think of any other technique to win in this situation.

He had to tire him out by hook or crook.

So he did the most logical thing.

Probably the stupidest.

He ran.

He ran accross the house of his future trainer.

Not because it was fun but because, it was the only way effective.

After running at least 2 laps of the house, Rohit saw the wrestler getting tired as he was only accustomed to moving his body a certain way.

Then only Rohit saw an opportunity and with all the will he had in his 15 year old body, took the wrestler by his right thigh, put his weight on his shoulders and for a second lift him up from the ground, just to throw him back into the sand and knock him out.

That move of his was mastered and polished. He wanted to learn beyond that.

Suddenly there was a clap. Dhoni sir was clapping while smiling amused.

"Tujhe kushti aur marathon me farak sikhana padega phle, pr wo dhobi pachad ek dum solid tha"

Then everyone around him laughed and clapped for him, knowing now he's gonna be a part of their akhada family.

Rohit also smiled a little. Knowing he finally found home. Despite living someone else's life.

Then his eyes found him.

And the world stopped.
