Part 4
A few days had passed since the last onslaught of rain in the Court of Fontaine. Lumine looked up to the sky as she marched along with the crew of the "Musketeer Picture". Although the weather had relatively calmed, allowing them to film "The Two Musketeers" for the Fontinalia Festival, she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
There it was again.
The hair at the back of her neck stood on end, yet what she saw in the night sky was the same old picture. It was dark, decorated with stars while the full moon shined at its expected place. Nothing appeared different yet there was something up there, a force perhaps, or a foreign elemental energy maybe. She was unable pinpoint what it was. Even though there was nothing visible in the sky that may cause alarm, all her senses were blaring a warning.
"Is everything alright, Traveler?" Paimon asked.
She looked back at the floating creature. "Sorry, I was just... Paimon, do you feel anything?"
"Feel what?" Wriothesley asked beside them as they walked in a group. The film crew had invited the Duke to join the dinner to be held at the Palais Mermonia. It was an afterparty arranged by Neuvillette and the Palais to congratulate the contestants and winner of the Furina Award.
Lumine pressed her lips. She hadn't met Wriothesley since the incident at the cave. They continued acting like nothing happened after they had parted ways, with him returning to the Fortress and her taking a commission involving the Narzissenkreuz Ordo and now helping Xavier's film. "I'm not sure. There something about the air... about the sky..."
"Paimon doesn't feel anything," Paimon said.
Lumine eyed her suspiciously. Sure, Paimon won't feel anything. It wasn't like she had a vision or the ability to resonate with elemental energy like the Traveler.
Despite everything Lumine and Paimon had been through together, there had always been a tiny part of Lumine that suspected the floating creature, having no idea where the creature had spawned from. Her suspicion only worsened when she noticed Paimon's extreme reaction when they discovered that Neuvillette had given the gnosis away. "A diplomatic gift? A gnosis?" Paimon had screamed at Lumine's ear when Lyney had revealed that the Knave possessed the gonsis. Lumine did a double take at her companion's reaction but did her best to hide her suspicion.
"You're not going to betray me, right, Paimon?"
"Huh? Why would you ask that out of the blue? Paimon is the best traveling companion in the whole wide world! Paimon will never betray you!" Paimon screeched.
"Right. You better not, or else..."
"I don't feel anything either," Wriothesley said.
"Oh, I know what you two are talking about. I can feel it." Furina joined in.
"You do?" Lumine watched the former Hydro Archon hopefully.
She had a big smile on her face. "Uh-huh. It's the feeling of success!" She laughed boisterously while hugging the trophy they won.
Lumine smiled. Even though Furina tended to be over-dramatic at times, she was glad to see her friend revert to an energetic state. It appeared she had rekindled her passion for the theatre after holing up in her apartment. A shiny, new, hydro vision dangled on her waist proudly with curious little fangs securing them on the socket.
"Is it to do with the sky?" Ayato asked. His sister was busy chatting with Chiori, Chevreuse, and Yoimiya and were walking ahead of the group.
"Yes," Lumine said, surprised at his astute observation.
